Anyone who survived the first wave of twitch video games of the '80s will remember Yars' Revenge. It was one of the best and most popular games available for the legendary Atari 2600 console, and many a sore thumb can be attributed to hours in front of the TV battling the evil Qotile Armada. Now a new generation of gamers can see what all the fuss was about with Yars' Revenge for the Game Boy.

The premise and gameplay have not changed. You pilot a ship that looks like a housefly, blasting your way through the barrier that shields the Qotile mothership so you can destroy it and progress to the next level. Homing missiles and the Qotile itself hinder your progress and keep you on the move at all times. As the game progresses, the shields become more difficult to penetrate and the obstacles harder to dodge.

That's it. Yars' Revenge is reflex gaming at its most basic level. The graphics stink and the sound effects are laughable, but this isn't the type of game that relies on cutting edge technology to deliver great gameplay. If you prefer more steak than sizzle, Yars' Revenge should deliver hours of old-school fun. --T. Byrl Baker

This is a great conversion of the original Atari 2600 game from 1983. The graphics are better but the same addictive game play is there. And the price is good too for a new GameBoy Color cart. A password system lets you pick up a game where you left off previously rather than starting from scratch.

The classic Atari 2600 game, now available on Gameboy! This is an exact conversion (as I recall), with good colors. At last I can beat this game...

The gameplay in Yars Revenge is addicting, fast paced, and very fun. This Game Boy Color version is much better then the version bundled on the Game Boy Advange with Pong and Asteroids. I know this because I had originally bought Yars Revenge for Game Boy Color used for about 2 bucks. At first, I could't figure out what to do in the game and didn't understand the goal. After I got the hang of this game I was HOOKED!!! It was the best 2 bucks I ever spent. Then, one day I popped the cartrige into my system, and it wouldn't fire up. Attempt after attempt to boot the game up failed: the game had inexplicably stopped working! I had played the game without a problem earlier in the day, too. So, since it broke I thought I'd buy the GBA version....wow, what a rip-off. For 15 bucks I got a slow paced, lower-rez graphics (yes) and much worse version of the game. Don't get me wrong, Asteroids and Pong are allright, but with no high score saves this compilation is lacking. Since the GBA Yars was such a dissapointment I hopped onto Amazon and once again purchased one of the most fun arcade style games EVER: Yars Revenge.

The storyline and main character in this game are very odd and unique. I won't spoil them for you. If you haven't heared of this game already and like arcade games or addicting games, this is a MUST BUY!!! The only downfall is that it won't work on your DS, so you have to bust out a GBA, GBC or original Game Boy to play it! And yes, this Game Boy Color software is backwards compatible with the ORIGINAL Game Boy hardware! How cool is that? I'd love to play this game on an original GB, too bad mine is gone for good :(
