the soundtrack to my life, April 6, 2000
This review is from: 10 Year Anniversary Box Set (22 CD-singles, booklet, & case) (Audio CD)
As a slightly obsessive Blur fan, I think this box-set is worth owning if only for the art-work, some of the most attractive and witty ever to appear on CDs. Many of the tracks inside make you wonder why they were never included on Blur's albums: the Beatles-ey homage to adolescence 'Young and Lovely' should definitely have appeared on 'Modern Life is Rubbish', while 'All Your Life' is a brilliantly melancholic Bowie-esque song that was inexplicably missed off 'Blur'. It's interesting to see foreshadows of Blur's many changes in sound through their B-sides, for example 'Bonebag', a beautiful ballad predating the likes of 'To the End' by 2 years. I found many of the tracks laugh-out-loud funny, such as the parody 'Rednecks' or 'Alex's Song' with a hilariously distorted vocal from Mr James: it's obvious that Blur shove all of their work out on record, without caring about any ensuing humiliation, but, hey, maybe that's why I love them. Many of the CDs contain between 7 and 9 tracks, so it's definitely good value, although obviously there are some nondescript or poor tracks, given Blur's prolific output. However I've given the set 5 stars for its fascinating journey through this definitively 90s band's career. Legislated nostalgia? Maybe. But as it's virtually impossible or extremely expensive to get hold of most of Blur's B-sides any other way, it's a trip you can't afford to miss out on.

A must for Blur fans, December 1, 1999
This review is from: 10 Year Anniversary Box Set (22 CD-singles, booklet, & case) (Audio CD)
Blur may have strategically packaged all their singles and b sides in a cool case logic type packaging, divided them in 22 cds and 127 songs all in all, but it is worth it for all of you die hard blur fans. Blur singles are hard to find in America and so here is our answer. The lucky consumers will even get some live tracks. Blur's music have changed since their early years. The contents of the 22 cds will then cater to Blur fans who liked their music then and now. Each cd neatly enclosed in the singles' original cover sleeve, the whole collection may become valuable in the new millenium. Mind you only 7000 box sets are released, each with its own serial number.

Now, that's music., June 19, 2000

Most of the folks who have already reviewed this set have said everything that needs to be said, but I had to add a line or two, just to say that I would not be able to live another day without some of the B-sides included in this collection. Bonebag, Peach, Theme from an Imaginary Film, and, especially, St. Louis, are some of the best tunes I've heard. Ya like Blur? Do ya? Ya got some extra payola? Spend it well, my friend. Buy this faboo set. I bought it months ago, and am still discovering tracks that floor me whenever I hear 'em. Enjoy!
