the soundtrack to my life,

As a slightly obsessive Blur fan, I think this box-set is worth owning if only for the art-work, some of the most attractive and witty ever to appear on CDs. Many of the tracks inside make you wonder why they were never included on Blur's albums: the Beatles-ey homage to adolescence 'Young and Lovely' should definitely have appeared on 'Modern Life is Rubbish', while 'All Your Life' is a brilliantly melancholic Bowie-esque song that was inexplicably missed off 'Blur'. It's interesting to see foreshadows of Blur's many changes in sound through their B-sides, for example 'Bonebag', a beautiful ballad predating the likes of 'To the End' by 2 years. I found many of the tracks laugh-out-loud funny, such as the parody 'Rednecks' or 'Alex's Song' with a hilariously distorted vocal from Mr James: it's obvious that Blur shove all of their work out on record, without caring about any ensuing humiliation, but, hey, maybe that's why I love them. Many of the CDs contain between 7 and 9 tracks, so it's definitely good value, although obviously there are some nondescript or poor tracks, given Blur's prolific output. However I've given the set 5 stars for its fascinating journey through this definitively 90s band's career. Legislated nostalgia? Maybe. But as it's virtually impossible or extremely expensive to get hold of most of Blur's B-sides any other way, it's a trip you can't afford to miss out on.

A must for Blur fans,

Blur may have strategically packaged all their singles and b sides in a cool case logic type packaging, divided them in 22 cds and 127 songs all in all, but it is worth it for all of you die hard blur fans. Blur singles are hard to find in America and so here is our answer. The lucky consumers will even get some live tracks. Blur's music have changed since their early years. The contents of the 22 cds will then cater to Blur fans who liked their music then and now. Each cd neatly enclosed in the singles' original cover sleeve, the whole collection may become valuable in the new millenium. Mind you only 7000 box sets are released, each with its own serial number.

Most of the folks who have already reviewed this set have said everything that needs to be said, but I had to add a line or two, just to say that I would not be able to live another day without some of the B-sides included in this collection. Bonebag, Peach, Theme from an Imaginary Film, and, especially, St. Louis, are some of the best tunes I've heard. Ya like Blur? Do ya? Ya got some extra payola? Spend it well, my friend. Buy this faboo set. I bought it months ago, and am still discovering tracks that floor me whenever I hear 'em. Enjoy!

Blur made collecting cd singles a joy. That's why this boxset is so essential. Every song is quality (even Rednecks is a lot of fun), but the b-sides from the Modern Life Is Rubbish era has always been my favorite. I owned all of these singles on my own at one time, but when eBay FIRST introduced to me, I remember making like 90 bucks for the 2cd set on For Tomorrow, not to forget selling Popscene for $50, and Bang and the original There's No Other Way for the same...this boxset makes the grade. I like how if there were a part1&2, it's now on the same disc. Just great stuff. The only other band I think stood the test of time like this as far as really strong b-sides is Mansun. If you haven't b-sides from them, get Kleptomania. The fans picked their 14 or 15 on disc two, but again - every song is powerful.

Even if you own all of the 6 Blur cds, from which these singles come, if you are a true fan, it is definitely worth purchasing. There are many remixes, b-sides, and live tracks that add to the collection. Moby's remix of Tender is especially notable. There is also a wicked remix by the Pet Shop Boys of Girls and Boys. Blur are definitely the most versatile band of the 90s and this is especially evident on this box set--check it out!

Blur are the most important and the most adventurous bands ofthe 90s andI've enjoyed every style of music they have everplayed. From She's So High to No Distance Left to Run its a brilliant set. I dont know one person will not like this set. If you like pop there's Charmless Man and For Tommorow. If you like dance theres Girls and Boys and some classy remixes of songs. If you want a night in with coco and your lover theres No Distance left To Run and Tender Overall if you wanna have a good few hours worth of great songs and creative music this sets for you.Great B-Sides for those who have all blurs albums like I Know Down Young and lovely Theme from an Imaginary Film.It also has some superb live tracks with Damon Going mentel and the beuty of tracks on their albums. A superb box set!

The best British band of the 90's,

This box-set is definitely worth having if your a keen Blur fan, mainly because it gives you the chance to hear all the b-sides they've released. There's an amazing variety of songs showing how Blur have made quite radical changes through the years and haven't just stuck to the same style and become boring (like a certain band from Manchester). My favourite tracks are Young & Lovely, Beachcoma, Peach, Magpie, Threadneedle Street, No Monsters In Me, Tame, and All We Want. Because there's so many tracks you could up with a completely different list of songs and they would still all be great.

All the singles from 1990-1999 (well, almost),
By Blair R. Campbell (Nova Scotia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anniversary Box Set (Audio CD)
This collects nearly all of Blur's UK singles (no Japanese It Could Be You or German M.O.R. singles, and for some reason the second part of the "No Distance Left To Run" single is omitted). Obviously this saves you a lot of time tracking down the individual singles, so the hefty price is worth it. Blur's B-Sides are not their best material but there are many hidden gems here. "Young & Lovely" is probably their best known B-Side but there are several other worthy tracks. "Mace" is a lovely pop song. "All Your Life" is very Bowiesque, in a good way. "Uncle Love" is great, simple garage rock. "All We Want" is a great 13 outtake. Towards the end there are quite a few unnecessary remixes and live tracks but overall this is a pretty cool package. Of course only the die hard fan would be interested in this but for them it is very rewarding.
