I Knew Mrs. Mary Reed Newland,

I know the religious writings of Mrs. Mary Reed Newland. More importantly, however, I was privileged to know her, and I graduated in 1964 from Monson (Massachusetts) High School with two of her sons, James and John. Mrs. Newland writes with keen insight and with unfailing grace; quite simply, she wrote the way she lived. Any Catholic, any Christian--indeed any person--will benefit intellectually as well as, more critically, spiritually from the work of this wonderful woman. If you enjoy the works of the late Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, you will similarly enjoy (and greatly benefit from) Mrs. Newland's work. It is at once practical and spiritual, academic and accessible. I simply can't recommend her works highly enough!

This is the book that I constantly return to when looking for ideas for making the Catholic Faith come alive for my children. The book is also full of very wise counsel in discipline and understanding children's behavior. Mrs. Newland was an excellent writer and a very creative mother. You will find yourself laughing out loud, and then eager to try some of her excellent ideas. If you cannot tell your children what the liturgical year of the Church even is, this is the book to buy. If you already have several books on the liturgical year...you still need this one. Kristen West McGuire

This is the best book I have ever read on the Catholic liturgical year. It was written in the late 1950's and has many traditional and economical ideas for families wanting to celebrate the entire liturgical year in their home. I learned a great deal about my faith by reading this book not to mention what my children got out of the fun activities.
