A Year with Frog and Toad (Original Cast Recording)

Even if you are not familiar with Arnold Lobel's Classic duo - you will enjoy this witty musical. If you do know the Frog and Toad books - this will enhance enjoyment of both musical and books. The music has a sophisticated 30's sound - Great jazzy orchestrations and the lyrics are giggle for both kids and adults. There is not a lot out there that is this good for children and entertaining for adults - rates with the best of Disney and Pixar. My two year old loves the show - but it is appropriate for ages 2 to 92.

I went to go see this show before it was on Broadway-in the New Victory Theater in Manhattan. It was the best show I've ever seen. At the time, they didn't have a soundtrack. But then, about a month later, I received a CD that had four songs on it from the show in the mail. I knew that I had to get the whole soundtrack. I couldn't find it anywhere for about a year, and then I looked on Amazon.com and-there it was! This is the best CD I've ever gotten. It's very unusual because that I'd never seen (or heard) anything like this before. Now I go to school singing the songs, and my friends sing with me (at least the parts they know). I love Turtle and Mouse, the way they sing--they have such strong voices. The lyrics to every song are catchy and humorous, and are just happy. I would recommend this CD for everyone who likes catchy, jazzy, funny songs. You just gotta love Frog and Toad!

I am about to order my third copy of this disk. I have two boys, ages 11 and 7, and theater-going is the one art-y activity I can get them to do. We are ardent Children's Theatre Company fans, and this is one of our favorites. Even their dad- who doesn't usually accompany us to the theater, LOVES this disk. (Now, if we could only quit wrecking it up!)

The book is based on the Arnold Lobel books. Interesting facts: His daughter and inspiration, Adrienne, was twice involved with the production. First-wise as the set designer, secondly as real-life wife to cast-member Mark Linn-Baker (Toad, also seen on TV in Perfect Strangers, and in the very enjoyable movie My Favorite Year).

All the cast is simply wonderful. The lyrics and music are so much fun. You'll be singing along before you know it!

Highly recommended - you don't need to see the show to *love* this music.

Our friends saw the show on broadway and recommended we buy the cd. Our three kids 8, 5, and 3 are all familiar with the Frog and Toad books already and were excited about hearing the songs. We took a 4 hour car trip and listened to the cd three times. We did the same thing on the way home. The best of it is, my wife and I actually like listening to the songs too. Most of our kids' music we merely tolerate.

This CD has a permanent place in the pantheon of music everyone in our family enjoys and after a year we're still loving it. The music is a delight and lyrics clever. You don't need to see the musical to appreciate it. The songs tell the Frog and Toad stories so well anyone can enjoy them. But if you do get the chance to see it, GO! We took our 3 year old (even though we didn't know if he'd get it) and he loved every minute of it.

This refreshingly charming score comes through delightfully on this album - and with a cast this fantastic (Frank Vlastnik and Danielle Ferland should do more albums, that's all I'm saying...), there is nothing not to completely adore! "Getta Loada Toad" and "I'm Coming Out of My Shell" are worth the price of the disc alone! Though this PS Classics release was slightly more than a tad frustrating to those of us who'd already purchased the album in its initial incarnation, it cannot be argued that having this recording commercially available like this (and with beautiful color photos in such a lavish booklet) is a fabulous thing at the very least!

My kids (5, 5, and 3) got this as a Christmas gift. The older kids love the books and now we love this CD even more! We had the pleasure of seeing the show last weekend. Having had the CD beforehand made it that much more enjoyable. The songs are not condescending to kids, and I enjoy it as much as the kids do. "A Year with Frog and Toad" is a wonderful CD that can truly be enjoyed by the entire family. It's always on in our car!

We got to see Frog and Toad in Minneapolis and loved it, so we were overjoyed to get the CD from a friend. It's one of the very few kid-appropriate CD's we've found that my husband and I can listen to over and over without wanting to slit our wrists. But that's actually faint praise--I listen to it (and sing along!) even when the kids aren't around--it's fun and jazzy, the lyrics are clever, and the cast is terrific, especially the "Snail with the Mail".

This is a delightful musical designed to appeal to children of all ages. (I'm 65 and found it magical!) Although I sure it's better to see the show than just hear it, this cast recording captures the energy of the show quite well. Most importantly, the valuable message of the show comes through very well on this recording. The message of the show is to answer the important question: "What is friendship?" Frog and Toad teach us the true meaning of this wonderful word in a way that is fun to hear!!

About a year ago I saw this Play at a local community theater. At first I didn't know what I had gotten myself into, but as it moved along I found myself becoming involved. By the time it was over, I was humming all the tunes and found myself a fan. I then went home to see if I could find a dvd of the stage production, but woefully, one does not exist. So this was the next best thing, and its a great production and cd. The songs are cute, the music catchy, and I, even today, still play it from time to time. Its simple, fun, and I am not afraid to admit I just love it.
