One of the Best Concerts on Film I've Seen, January 8, 2004
This review is from: Year of the Horse [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Cinematically, it's fabulous, with shifting cameras matching the music and mood. Not hand-held jerky or flashy-for-no-reason, but something any student of video or film could learn from. (Sarah Mclachlan's "Mirrorball" concert comes close to it.)
Musically, it's stunning. Sinead, still in raw form, putting it out there right on the heels of her first two albums, which are still among her best. She doesn't dance to perform, but to get lost in the music. Riveting all the way.
As a side note, Sinead was born in '66, the Year of the Horse. It was even the year of the Fire Horse, and Theodora Lau's book on Chinese astrology says that "Whatever unbridled passions the Horse possesses, they will be multiplied many times over when he or she is born in the year of the Fire Horse... The Fire Horse will consume everything in her path and wreak havoc wherever she goes." But she'll make damn good music along the way.

Great music, great performer, February 14, 2002
This review is from: Year of the Horse [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Believe me, you need it. Pity it's still not available on DVD. I've had it for years now and I think it's worth much more than I paid for it -whatever that was-. You're gonna love her dance 'I am stretched on your grave'. A must for any fan.
