When I first began reviewing music several years ago, I honestly did not have the focus toward uncovering artists and bands that either were making a difference in the music business or whose destiny was to accomplish same. I do not know where I was or what I was doing when I heard the song Soft and Sweet(MP3) by this unforgettable blues hip hop artist G Love and Special Sauce but I literally sprinted to my laptop and downloaded it in seconds. Artists not expected to rap have really mastered the craft starting with Debby Harry, Steve Poltz and the nascent Eminem who was not given much of an odds on chance to succeed the way he did. Of course, Reverend Run, Snoopy and Ludicrous were expected to excel
while those mentioned above can certainly be considered to be players. G. Love and Special Sauce have been playing together for many years and it shows. Just like Keith playing off of Mick, this is a jam band that does not miss beats or rhythm. Performers like G. Love is what the listeners desperately need, professionalism,cohesive instrumentation and a significant fan base. Add Lily Allen, the Killers and we are starting to see continuity in the industry that I personally hope will bend minds toward quality and artists that have arrived instead of those who aspire to do so. There is no doubt that G. Love and Special Sauce, Philadelphia's own, are getting really strong and exposed to their fans in bigger ways. A Year and a Night with G. The music is good (G. Love is good!) but if you are looking for a DVD to put on and kick it with...this is not for you! Too much useless talk...just when he starts to jam...back to talking!!! Disappointing!

Must watch it today!! as G. Love once said about his sound on Lemonade, "Tart, Tangy, Smooth, and oh so lip-smacking Sweet! Yes indeed, what you hold in your hands is pure, fresh, organic, summer sound. So go ahead, scratch it, sniff it, squeeze it, bite it until its juices slide down your elbows and leave you satisfied." and this dvd does just that. this dvd will make you not only like G. Love and Special Sauce, but, LOVE G. Love and Special Sauce.

This is a must have for any fan of G. Love. Even if you're not a fan, you'll become one after watching this DVD and listening to the CD.

A Year and a Night with G. Love and Special Sauce is definitely a must have for any fans of his music. It is also a must have for anyone who is a fan of music in general. The CD is great, and the DVD shows the different things the band goes through personally and as a whole. I really enjoy both the DVD and the CD and play them all the time.

Whether you are a G. Love fan from way back or have just recently discovered this treasure of a jam band, you should be adding this DVD/CD to your Special Sauce collection. The DVD showcases different stops around the world from their recent tour, band interviews, interaction among the guys, fan input and a great selection of live music and extended live play extras. The CD is a live recording from their show at the Electric Factory in Philly (a great venue for a show) and flows along to the DVD. You will want this one on heavy rotation in your car or on your iPod! A must-have and a great buy!

G-love has been my favorite band since my college room mate bought "Cold Beverages" on a whim because GLaSS was opening up the Laguna Seca Festival 1996 and they were the big unknown. Driving up from San Diego to Monterrey we listened to "Cold Beverages" over and over...hooked. All the albums are great but there is no substituting the LIVE GLaSS performance...until now. This album and the DVD are fantastic. You sense you are at the show and realize you can't wait until GLaSS rolls through your town again. Couldn't wait for the DVD and was definately not disappointed.

having had GLaSS basically provide the soundtrack to my life this last decade, i was quite anxious for this dvd release and had amazon deliver it the day it released. i watched it twice when i got home from work and was astounded by how *real* they were. we hear "real" far too often but this video blew me away- to see their interactions, some of the ways they treated eachother, etc... i guess that's what 13 years together might do to you. i also had a reaction i won't talk about because it'd spoil i think some of the more poignant pieces of the video. suffice it to say, i sent G a somewhat angered email... settled tho -- i bumped into houseman at their seattle show and had the chance to chat him up a little bit. that shed some different light on things (so i probably owe G an apology;)

anyway, fan or no fan, if you're into music or documentaries, this DVD is for you!

I've been a fan of G.Love and Special Sauce for years. A year and a Night is a real, raw look at the band. I learned so much about the guys that I have loved to see play live for the past nine years. I truly enjoyed the DVD and the bounus CD of them live from the Electric Factory in Philly is like a breath of fresh air. A real treat for any fan of the band.
