In the 1960s, the dawn of computing, programmers decided that it would be a good idea to use dates in their programmes. However, when they went through the code they needed, they found that once they put in the year 2000, the amount of code needed took a giant jump. Cleverly, they decided to just leave it out, deciding that modern programmers would easily be able to solve the problem. Most programmes still contain this flaw and purchasing the right corrective software may prove to be a minefield to the everyday PC user. This book aims to offer professional but straightforward advice on identifying system problems on all platforms, from PCs to mainframes, and describes resources for testing and fixing affected programmes. More importantly for large companies and corporations, the book tells the reader when its time to give up in-house efforts at fixing the problem and call in third-party specialists. Included with the book is a CD-ROM which contains sample code for fixing programs affected by the year 2000 problem.

The year 2000 crises was just a big rumor made by reporters to scare us so they could make money,it never happened,and since it is already 2002,this book is useless and should be taken off the market immediatly. I don't mean to insult anyone,but if you buy this book now,your a dummy. I would give it 0 stars if I could. It might make a good joke book,though.

This book provides a sound basis to getting started in y2k remediation. It lacks in-depth coverage of remediation methods, but you can search the internet to find more info on the of the topics covered.

This is the first book I ever read concerning Year 2000 problems and solutions. It was very easy to read and very interesting. Humorous!!!!Took my fears away and gave me a better idea of what can really happen if organizations don't pick there socks and change the inevitable. This book tells me that the Year 2000 problem is really a challenge for everyone to get involved in. I sure will try to be in a safe place midnight January 1, 2000. I think I will be ready because I am aware of the endless possibilites of problems. Therefore I will definitely avoid some of them. :} I will not be in an airplane, a car, an elevator and near any mechanisim that requires computer chips. I think I'll be in a log cabin with a wood stove.:} I have talked to people about the Year 2000 problems but alot of people don't care. They will care when it affects them. When the elevator doesn't work, their car quits in the middle of the highway, or their cheque does not go through the banking system as they espected. It's gonna be quite a sight. No lights, no electricity. :}
