This award winning (2007) cookbook has a bunch of recipes which can be labelled Modern English (no resemblence to tradition English food). It is similar to the Ottolenghi cookbook in a way. The photos are marvellous too. All recipes are restaurant quality so you will have to accept more ingredients and preparation time, but nothing outside the normal if you enjoy cooking. Excellent for entertainment because the author also pays quite a bit of attention to how the dishes look. There is a decent, but not large, number of recipes in the book, but what is remarkable is how well they all taste. (Well the 10-12 dishes that I've tried.

There is only one aspect of the book that deserve one star: After using the book three times, the glue in the binding dissolved. This is really totally unacceptable. So try to find the hard cover edition, which probably is better. But the publisher totally incompetent publisher/printer ought to take heed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seasonal cooking December 23, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've enjoyed this cookbook and how the recipes have been broken up by season, but some of the ingredients have been more difficult to find. I made a great eggplant curry which was really fun, but took a long time. This book takes time and uncommon ingredients to really enjoy. I think it's worth it, but it's not for the everyday meal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best cookbook of the year March 3, 2009
By H. Leff
Format:Paperback
The recipes in this book are fantastic, her combinations of spices and ingredients are spot on. Everything from the simple roasted tomatoes to the more complicated lamb and prune stew are fantastic. It's worth ordering fresh spices and grinding them yourself to follow her recipes.

This is the first book that inspired me to buy more and more. So delicious! I've been using the same recipes for over 2 years now. Again, could not ask for more.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing December 27, 2012

I had high hopes for this book, but didn't like it very much. A lot of the ingredients are hard to obtain, even in my urban area and the recipes just didn't appeal to me much.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning book July 8, 2011

The recipes look incredible. I really like how she uses some base condiments and uses them in a lot of the dishes. Can't wait to try some dishes!
