We were lucky enough to visit the actual exhibit of the same name when it came to Providence, and this mesmerizing disc captures the spirit and force of that marvelous display, which depicted 150 years of American heritage as chronicled by 16 Smithsonian museums and galleries. Arranged like the exhibit in three main sections?Discovering, Imagining, Remembering?this is a multimedia trove of Smithsonian treasures ranging from dinosaur feet and Edison's light bulbs to Native American art, Dorothy's ruby slippers, and Kermit the Frog. You can take a guided tour, move along a time line, or search for specific items (Indiana Jones's hat or a Star WarsR phaser). Featuring over 300 objects, with 500 graphics, 35 minutes of video (including archival footage), and 90 minutes of audio narration, music, speeches, and interviews, this is a stunning work of art in itself. Bottom Line: Buy two: you won't want to let a solo copy out of the house or building. A "Best in Show."
