Splendid DVD!,

I was hooked from the very start of this wonderful program. The first song is the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, being played on solo violin, accompanied by piano. And who is the violinist? It's none other than Lorin Maazel! After I recovered from that, I enjoyed fabulous interpretations of some of the other great orchestral pieces in opera, including rarely heard ballet music from Verdi's Otello. The concert ends with the Libiamo, which is sung by Stefania Bonfadelli, and Roberto Aronica. What a musical treat!
