I picked this up at a used booksale for my Irish neighbor, but before giving it to her I took a journey through the poetry.The poetry is organized chronologically starting with ancient Irish poetry followed by modern poetry, anonymous street ballads and Anglo-Irish poetry. There are four indexes: poets, translators, titles and first lines as well as a glossary of Irish words. This is a beautiful compilation of Irish poetry and will definitely draw pictures in your mind of this wonderfully diverse country!

I ordered this book to replace a copy that had been in my childhood home. It was like having a long, lost friend return. I've spent hours pouring over this book, rereading poems I have loved for years and discovering new treasures.
