5.0 out of 5 stars All Killer - No Filler, July 14, 2004
This review is from: 50 Years of Rock & Roll (Audio CD)
If you are a fan of rock-n-roll and more specifically the sounds of Memphis, you cannot go wrong by getting this disc. This is a fantastic sampler of great American music and a superb intro to 20 different GIANTS. All the songs SOUND amazing, too. This should be one of the all-time great "shuffle" discs! Just wish it had 40 tracks instead of 21.

Last year was the 50 anniveristy of Rock and Roll, and the town of Memphis, someone from there, brought this cd out, with 21 tracks, inclduing 2 songs fom Elvis Presley, who lived in Memphis, along with some other places during his carrer, but he lived there for a long time. The cd also has songs from Roy Orbison & the Teen Kings, Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Two, Aretha Franklin, and Jerry Lee Lewis. The first songs were recored at Sam Philips's Sun Studios, but around track #10 or so, check the booklet that comes with, are songs that are from another recording studio. The cd has songs from the 50's, 60's and early 70's, and nothing too recent. So if you are a fan of these singers, maybe not all, this is denifly something you want to give a listen to. From songs like That's All Right, Ooby Dooby, Son Of A Preacher Man, and I'll Take You there. THe whole song list, and singers are

1. Rocket 88 - Jackie Brenston & His Delta Cats

2. That's All Right - Elvis Presley with Scotty and Bill

3. Blue Suede Shoes - Carl Perkins

4. I Walk The Line - Johnny Cash and The Tennessee Two

5. Ooby Dooby - Roy Orbison and Teen Kings

6. Great Balls Of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis

7. Last Night - The Mar-Keys

8. Green Onions - Booker T & The MG's

9. Rock Me Baby - B.B. King

10. Wooly Bully - Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs

11. The Dark End Of the Street - James Carr

12. Respect - Aretha Franklin

13. The Letter - The Box Tops

14. Soul Man - Sam And Dave

15. (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay - Otis Redding

16. Memphis Train - Rufus Thomas

17. Son Of A Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield

18. Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley

19. Theme From Shaft - Isaac Hayes

20. Let's Stay Together - Al Green

I hope you enjoy this cd, and will always be in your cd collection, and play in your cd player if you ever want to celbrate yourself 50 years of Rock and Rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars All Good; Gimme More, December 2, 2004
This review is from: 50 Years of Rock & Roll (Audio CD)
Starting with "Rocket 88" with Ike Turner playing with his busted amp before R & B (OR rock and roll) were mainstream and ending up far down the line, this is all good stuff. I highly recommend it, and yes, there IS a lot of Memphis stuff here. I considered only 4 stars because how can you cover 50 years in 21 songs? They owe me but I'll gladly pay more for another 21 from the same time frame--if they're as good as these.
