From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD

Dave Gonzales is a brute of a guitarist, roughing up rockabilly, bare-bones blues rock, and swamp blues with roily leads and chords. He and electric or upright bass player Thomas Yearsley are singers in name only, and their phrasing is sludgy and labored. The production fails to simulate the kick-in-the-butt frenzy of the San Diego-based trio in concert. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993

The Paladins are one of the best roots rock bands happening out there. They are raw and they keep it real. Dave Gonzales is one of the most talented "roots rock" git-tar players the scene has had in decades. They appreciate their influences and play homage to many of them. A must have for your collection!

This band has been making great music since before this one. At the same time this is an excellent collection for newcomers, especially for the classic "Down At Big Mary's". Their music is a West Coast blend of rockabilly and blues, with a little R & B and swing thrown in for good measure.
This is the first of theirs' that I bought, and I've never regretted it. I'm primarily a blues fan, but if any of this sounds appealing, don't hesitate. This power trio has never gotten as much attention as it deserves, and is DEFINITELY worth checking out!
