5.0 out of 5 stars WOW - Great EP, exciting band! March 24, 2010

I'd never heard of these guys, but last weekend I was in Chicago for the Alice in Chains show, and found out that Middle Class Rut was the opener. I got on their myspace page for a listen and thought they were pretty good. Went to the show, and while the venue's sound was less than spectacular, these guys played with an energy and a kind of darker edge that I haven't seen in a long time, and it got me excited to hear more! These songs definitely give a nod to 90's-era alternative (back when alternative was actually ALTERNATIVE) rock, with a particular familiarity to Jane's Addiction (esp. Dead Set and Busy Bein' Born) or maybe a less-manic, more driving At The Drive-In sound.

I found a new band to get up for, even if the Chicago crowd wasn't entirely as receptive as I was. My guess is that they were anxious to see AIC, and not ready to be blown away by these guys yet. But hey, even Stevie Ray Vaughan was booed at the Montreaux Jazz Festival before returning a few years later to set the place on fire. My guess is, next time Middle Class Rut comes back to Chicago, they'll be received a little more enthusiastically.

In short, check this band and this EP out! If you consider yourself a fan of alternative rock with a slightly heavier side, you'll love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different kind of band! August 9, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Apparently there's only two guys in this band. They sound amazing. Thought I'd check them out since they're going to be at pain in the grass. Kind of folky in a way. Like a new school version of America. Good album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome band, GREAT EP December 11, 2012

Middle Class Rut is such a under rated band, I bought this album just to support them because everyone downloads music for free now a days and gives no real bands any money to go buy. I've seen MCR live and they sound great, this album has some of the best songs they have made and I am very happy that amazon had it.
