5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on Holocaust & birth of State of Israel, August 11, 1998
This review is from: Years of Wrath, Days of Glory: Memoirs from the Irgun (Hardcover)
One of the most key books of this century. Using personal perspective of first growing up in pre-state Israel and his involvement with labor Zionism, the author describes his first journey into the Jabotinsky movement; first his meeting a follower of Jabotinsky in Italy, then joining Betar and his recruitment into the Irgun. Ben-Ami, Peter Bergon and a few others came to the United States to get support for a Jewish Army, an idependent Hebrew republic and efforts to save the Jews of Europe. After meeting Ben Hecht their chances to be heard increased "ten fold." A mass movemement was born overnight. Max Lerner, who did not agree politically with Ben-Ami's and Peter Bergson's revionist Zionism, joined because he thought "first things first and the first thing was to" arouse the US into action in order to save the Jews of Europe. Intersting & importment documents are shown in the Appendix -- including their first newspaper ad headlined "Jews Fi! ght for the Right to Fight." The Bergson group's activities did result in the creation of the War Refugee Board, created by President Roosevelt on January 22, 1944.

This review is from: Years of Wrath, Days of Glory: Memoirs from the Irgun (Hardcover)
This book describes the years leading up to the creation of the Jewish State, how leftist Jews turned fellow Jews from the Irgun and the Sternists over to the British, and collaborated with the British to frustrate attempts by Jews fleeing the Holocaust to enter Palestine, sending them back to their death in the Auschwitz crematoria. This is the reason why many religious Jews are anti-Zionist. The State of Israel is still ruled mostly by people who subscribe to the mentality of Ben-Gurion, Weizmann, and the other leftist kapos and Judenrat traitors.
