I had read some good things about red rice yeast, and thought I'd see if it made an impact for me. The result was dramatic - my total cholestrol went from about 200 to 140. My doctor was very pleased, but she did some resarch on which brands performed well for consistent potency as well not having risk of carcinogens. This was on the list of the top 6 recommended red...

3.0 out of 5 stars After 6 months of use---
My cholesterol did go down from 300 to 250 after using for 6 months. Not the result that I was hoping for but better than before. I am not able to use statins because of my fibromyalgia. They cause my problem with muscle spams to worsen. I have had a really bad time this past month with spasms. Not sure if the red yeast rice is the culprit or if I am just in a flare. Will...

5.0 out of 5 stars Doctor recommended., August 17, 2010
This review is from: Red Yeast Rice Extended Release 600 mg By Nature's Plus - 60 Tablets
I had read some good things about red rice yeast, and thought I'd see if it made an impact for me. The result was dramatic - my total cholestrol went from about 200 to 140. My doctor was very pleased, but she did some resarch on which brands performed well for consistent potency as well not having risk of carcinogens. This was on the list of the top 6 recommended red rice supplements, and the doctor endorsed this one for ease of use (take one per day). A store brand I had tried did well on the cholesterol but did not fare well on the lab research for cacinogens. Be aware that all red rice yeast is not the same.

My wife developed high blood presure and her HDL and LDL and treglicerides got way out of line. She started taking "Naturess Plus" red yeast rice and Omega 3 tabs (fish oil). A year later her LDL/HDL levels are back in line and the triglicerides are back to normal.
My view is dpn't mess with something that works.

Millions of people aren't wrong, this really can replace statins. Maybe not if you're taking a very high dose of course, but in place of my 10 mg a day prescription at $3.50 a tablet, it sure did work! All lipid levals are normal, the same as they were when I took the statins. Talk to your Dr. and have a lipid panel run (cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides), then ask if you can try red yeast rice for 3 months or so. Repeat the lipid panel and see if it works for you. Consumerlab.com an independent testing lab that I subscribe to ($29.00 a year-they test all OTC vitimins/herbs etc. things on the market) said this brand has the most active ingredients of all on the market, and Amazon has the best price. Don't forget to read up on fish oil too. My daughter's triglycerides went from 320 down to 187 in two months! Yes, discuss it with a health professional because these OTC's may interfere with other things you are taking. Be safe with OTC's!

5.0 out of 5 stars Natures Plus Red Yeast Rice, extended release 600 mg - works great for us, February 3, 2011

For the past year, my husband has been taking Natures Plus Red Yeast Rice extended release at bedtime and his total cholesterol and LDL have both reduced substantially. His doctor recommended it. If this didn't work, he'd have to go on a statin. Fortunately that's not necessary now because his cholesterol dropped to about 200.

I'd like to add that there was a study published in the New York Times science column in late 2010 comparing efficacy of about 10 different red yeast rice products. Natures Plus Red Yeast Rice was included in the laboratory study. I ordered a copy of the results online and discovered that Nature's Plus seemed to test the best among all the other brands. Some of the other brands have a toxin after-effect to the kidney, something to do with the yeast fermentation process. Also some of the other brands don't necessarily have the concentration of monocolins which they state on their packaging. That has to do with quality control in the manufacturing process.

In any event, the study showed that Natures Plus Red Yeast Rice did not have the toxin and the monocolin count was accurate as stated (600).

I have to say we were very concerned about this toxin thing especially, and it was relief to learn that Natures Plus RYR passed the lab test. Otherwise my husband would have switched to a prescription statin. We are staying with this product.

My doctor recommened that I try using Red Yeast Rice pills in order to lower my cholesterol. My overall cholesterol had been around 220 for several years even though I had changed my diet and exercise daily. It never changed year after year. I started to use Nature's Plus and 45 days later had my cholesterol checked. To my suprise it had dropped to 192! So what more can I say, these work. I like the "once a day" instructions and it has not had any side affects for me so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars great product, December 18, 2010

I have very high cholesterol. Prescriptions made me extremely tired. My doctor asked me the try a good Red Yeast Rice warning me that no all RYR are the same. She had me go to a natural food store which she said would carry a good brand. It was extremely expensive. I looked for the brand on-line and found it much less expensive. My doctor continues to monitor me and I have already dropped my cholesterol by 40 points after a few months. Shipping is quick and product seems to be working very well for me. After reading up on RYR, I elected to take Coq10 with it to help with any side effects such as tiredness. I have had no side effects or issues. These products should only be taken with a doctor's supervision.

Nature's Plus - Red Yeast Rice Extended Rel, 600 mg, 60 tabletsFor over a year I have been ordering this product through Amazon and have been totally pleased with the quality and speed of service. It is much cheaper than purchasing exactly the same product locally. And, by the way, after taking this, I no longer need to use a prescription drug to lower my cholesterol!

This review is from: Red Yeast Rice Extended Release 600 mg By Nature's Plus - 60 Tablets
Wow, let me tell you this stuff really works. I have tried Rx fish oil to no avail and my doctor was set to prescribe me Crestor. This was a desperate last resort. I took one pill each late afternoon for three months and despite my best intentions to also eat better, I couldn't. Actually with a pregnant wife at home I found myself eating worse than ever before. Pizza, premium ice cream...you get the picture. So when I went for a 3 month follow-up blood test I had low expectations. However, my overall cholesterol level came back over 50 points lower! My LDL and triglycerides both dropped over 50 points each and my good cholesterol went up. Could only have been this product. Do yourself a favor and order it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Product, February 20, 2011

This review is from: Red Yeast Rice Extended Release 600 mg By Nature's Plus - 60 Tablets
Nature's Plus Extended Release Red Yeast Rice is an amazing product. I was taking Cholestene prior to taking
this. The Cholestene lowered my cholesterol somewhat but then it started going up again. My Dr. wanted to put me on a statin but I was very concerned about the side effects. I starting researching other red yeast rice products and Nature's Plus had gotten excellent reviews. I switched over to this and have been on
2,400 mg (4 a day)as per my Dr. for 6 months. I had my blood work done and my Dr. couldn't beleive the results. My total cholesterol went from 245 to 166 and all of my other numbers were great. I highly recommend
this product. You should take this at night, that's when you produce the most cholesterol. I also take
CoQ10, 100mg. Any product that helps to lower cholesterol also depletes your CoQ10 levels.
