5.0 out of 5 stars A sample of the work of the great Israeli Poet, January 19, 2012
This review is from: Yehuda Amichai (Faber Poetry) (Paperback)
Yehuda Amichai is poet of enormous popularity in Israel. In some ways he has spoken for the national experience. He writes of Love and War and of the City of Jerusalem. He writes in a colloquial Hebrew rich in Biblical reference. He was raised as an Orthodox Jew and so knows the nuances of traditional texts. His work is layered and rich in implication and nuance. Ted Hughes was his great friend and translator who once said that the best translator of Amichai is Amichai himself. Through this work one can make acquaintance with a poet who is both a master of language and a rich interpreter of human experience.
