First off the chain is nice and real 14k gold.(did acidic test) Having jewelers in the distant family I know more than most about jewelry. The advertisement says 5.9mm. This review is from: Men's 14k Yellow Gold 5.9mm Cuban Chain Necklace, 22" (Jewelry)
First off the chain is nice and real 14k gold.(did acidic test) Having jewelers in the distant family I know more than most about jewelry. The advertisement says 5.9mm. After receiveing the chain I grabbed my REALLY precise digital caliper and measured the chain. The chain was really 5.58mm at it's thickest point. I measured every link highest reading I got was 5.64 mm FAR from 5.9.mm. Not a big deal if dealing with something that's isn't real gold. Every mm off means less total gold of the chain. Then I grabed my jewelers digital sale. Calibrated it. And measured it 17.4 grams. Also far from 19grams advertised. In pennyweights if you were to sell this chain you would get around $ 650 assuming the gold buyer gives you 100% of the value( they wont usually 70-90%) I don't know if the manufacture of this chain lied about the width or it was just a mistake, but the difference of the advertised and actual is so minimal that the average consumer will not realize the difference , but not so minimal that if producing the chain by the thousands that minimal differnce in weight and thickness translates into 5figure savings possibly 6 figures.

I did the calculations when gold was at 1782 dollars a Troy ounce.

People are probably thinking " oh this chain is sold for $1080 because of labor mark-up." wrong. The most labor that goes into making this chain is measuring the 24k gold and measuring the other metals to melt together in order to form 14k gold. After that they pour into machine that streches gold into strand then the machine makes the chain. Then they give them an ultrasonic bath and dip them in some more gold to make them shine.

A fair price for this chain (the 5.9mm not the one I got) would be $950. That way amazon makes profit and you get a fair deal. Also made USA which is plus IMO.

Now if you dont mind the current price of the chain, then pull the trigger. It is a nice chain, not too thin and not too thick.(5.6mm) Nice for a man or male teen every day wear. Hopefully you guys get the thickness and weight being advertised.
