Hot Tuna - 'Steady As She Goes'

Biography

From their days playing together as teenagers to their current acoustic and electric blues, probably no one has more consistently led American music for the last 50 years than Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, the founders and continuing core members of the iconic blues-roots band Hot Tuna.

Now members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the pair began playing together while growing up in ... Read more in Amazon's Hot Tuna Store

Editorial Reviews

Digitally remastered edition of this 1975 album from the duo consisting of Jefferson Airplane stalwarts Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady. The album was the sixth recorded by the group and was the second of the so-called "Power Trio" era of albums by the band. Featuring Kaukonen, Casady and drummer Bob Steeler, the album continued their move away from acoustic music to a harder rock style and featured stand out tracks such as 'Sunrise Dance With The Devil' and 'Bar Room Crystal Ball'. Esoteric. 2011.

Jorma anymore is known more for his ragtime blues playing. However if you have ever seen him play electric, you will realize that while he is an excellent ragtime player, he is a very unique and unbelieveable electric player.

Next to Double Dose, unavailable on CD as far as I know, this is as close as it gets to Jorma's very best feedback psychedelic super heavy jamming. The first song alone will knock your socks off and is worth the price of the album!!

Jorma and Jack are solid electric on one of their finest and superbly crafted recording endeavors on Yellow Fever, one of my absolute favorite Hot Tuna albums, from the first moment I heard it. Their guitar and bass communicate to each other beyond what words can describe-only your ears will understand how well they collaborate and weave in and out of each others realm with their skillful tightness. Their music is in a category of their own and totally unique in the history of rock (and roll). Their talent and abilty to take blues and spin it somewhere else has always amazed me. This album demands listening and sounds just a fresh today as it did wihen it was first released years ago.

this is one of my favorite hot tuna albums. if you like the electric sound on americas choice or hoppkorv, this album was released in between and is definitely heavier and more muscular but similar. sunrise dance with the devil is of course one of hot tuna's best known songs. jorma goes for the searing sound, multilayered on almost every track. only weakness is a couple of the songs on side two just dont go anywhere interesting. the instrumental finale surphase tension is worth the price of the disc alone. not sure why this has been out of print in the states.

This is one of Tuna's best electric and 1 of the best Rock/Blues album ever produced. Super guitar work on all the releases. Many thanks to these guys for keeping the Rock/Blues so great.

one of their electric best along with Americas' Choice......best to buy while you can....limited availability....their guitar work is at its best...although Americas' Choice is more structured.....as wild as you can get as far as Hot Tuna is concerned....if seeking older work would mention Burgers....or The Phosphorescent Rat.

This is Jorma's best effort in acid music. It is melodic and shows alot of his style. It is a must in any music collection.

Easily, one of my all time favorite albums. I said album because that is the format I have now, ever since I originally purchased this back in my high schools days in 1976. I have been waiting a very long time for this to come out in CD format, and I see it has.

Of course, I transfered my album copy to CD a while ago. But, as you can imagine, it still has the click & pops associated with album noise and wear-and-tear. Especially since my original copy is so old. I now own a copy of the massed-produced manufactured version being sold by [...]

Anyway, Jorma is a great electric/blues guitar player as you can tell on most of his work (especially this one). My favorite song, by far, is "Baby What You Want Me To Do". By the way, it happens to be a great song made even better by Jorma's fantastic guitar work.

Brings back some solid memories of the type of music played in the early to mid 70's.
