The Yellow No. 5 EP is probably Heatmiser's most accessibly poppy release, laying out 5 short, snappy tunes with plenty of hooks in them -- it's almost as if the record was intended to balance the darker, more soulful rock sound of Cop and Speeder, the album which accompanied Yellow No. 5. With 5 songs ranging in the glorious 2 minute infection-pop style, Heatmiser delivers a truckload in a little package. Fortune 500 is worth the ticket price itself, a certain Elliott Smith gem. Track 4 presents a very strong early presentation of Elliott Smith's sigh and heartwrench that keeps you uncomfortably glued. Neil Gust has his gems in betwixt and in between, though in no way taking a back seat to Smith. This is a band to say the least, and this album is a must for a fan of Heatmiser, Smith, or any kind of, well, you know... that indie stuff.
