5.0 out of 5 stars Universal Appeal
The fun of David Carter's "Yellow Square" is truly for all ages, from two to ninety-two. His clever and complex pop-up designs, bright colors, and the elusive little yellow squares make for a thoroughly enjoyable experience each time one turns the pages of this delightful book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive and unimaginative
I thoroughly enjoyed the author's previous 3 books: One Red Dot, Blue 2 and 600 Black Spots. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed by this book. It is quite derivative from the earlier works and offers little in the way of imagination, fun or whimsy. Unless you are a collector and want the book for completeness, I would recommend the earlier works as alternatives,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Yay for Yellow Square!, December 14, 2008
This review is from: Yellow Square: A Pop-up Book for Children of All Ages (Hardcover)
Yellow Square is a terrific follow-up to the other books in David A. Carter's color series that began with One Red Dot in 2005. Children will delight in the complex paper constructions. I know my students love David Carter's color books in particular and I can't keep them in the library. The uncomplicated text makes it a fun read-aloud, too. One of the most creative aspects of the series is how Mr. Carter has built in elements of the previous titles. In Blue 2, the aforementioned Dot makes a cameo appearance and in 600 Black Spots, not only does the Dot return, but Carter artfully conceals the Blue 2. All appear in Yellow Square, which like the other titles demands great care and is not for the littlest of children. The paper constructions won't stand up to children who don't care for their books. Still, for those who would treat Yellow Square as an art piece or a mini-gallery in a book, this is a excellent addition to your coffee table or your child's home library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another extraordinary book by David Carter, December 22, 2008
This review is from: Yellow Square: A Pop-up Book for Children of All Ages (Hardcover)
Each time I open a new book by David A Carter I am delighted by what I find. I started with Feely Bugs Feely Bugs: To Touch and Feel Book (Bugs in a Box Books) for my then infant son - We've moved onto bigger and grander David Carter books, I helped my son to buy Yellow Square for Daddy for Christmas - It really is a Pop-up Book for children of all ages. I would happily recommend every other David A Carter creation - sight unseen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightful and intriguing, December 8, 2011

These books are beautifully done and enjoyable to look at art. My two girls 8-10 spent an hour trying to find all the yellow squares on each page. The text is simple but poetic. Only problem is you need to be very careful when you open the book the first time because some of the pop-ups get stuck together and can very easily tear.

Every page is an adventure! It is so much fun to find the Yellow Square. :) I bought 6 David A Carter books and none disappoints. I never knew a book could be a work of art...it would be so great if each page could be separated so I can put it on my wall. <3

My 4-year-old son is a huge fan of David A. Carter; from the first time he saw his book he insisted to get all of them, I love them too! They are extremely creative and fun and provide endless imaginary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for infants too!, January 28, 2010
This review is from: Yellow Square: A Pop-up Book for Children of All Ages (Hardcover)
We received this book as a gift for our infant son prior to his birth. I am typically not a fan of pop-up books so I wasn't too pleased that we had received it. I started reading to my son when he was about two months old and by about three months old he became so excited by books that he ended up with papercuts every time I read him a story. So, I decided to see if he would be interested in this book......he loves it. He is now four months old, and I bring it out about once a week and he just loves to stare and reach for the items on the pages (I have to try really hard to keep it out of his reach as the pages are delicate). I imagine it will get better with age when he can actually search for the yellow squares!
