I've visited Yellowstone every year for 34 years. This is the best small book to introduce pre-school to fifth graders to the park before they visit or while they are there. Petersen writes at a level they can read by themselves. His facts are correct. He covers the history and the animals and plants of Yellowstone well. I'm reading it to my four and six year old grandsons before we visit this summer. It would also be good for use in primary classrooms before they study National Parks, the West, Wyoming, Habitats or North American Wildlife.

Bought the book for my child's history project and was pleasantly surprised. As a 6 year old, reading level 2, he was able to read the book on his own, and it was a great mix of photos and text.

We are making the family road trip next summer and this book is a perfect and durable introduction of where we are going to are four year old. he loves volcanoes and this book provides a good overview of the park. It is a great learning tool, and its nice to look at. It will must asuredly will be on our coffee table until we go and probably afterward so our son can play tour guide to regale guests about our trip.
