Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Included on this collection are the assorted misfits, squalid toads, freak aberrations, and Godless creations that make their own communities squeal in terror, gathered in one place to serve the purpose of turning the world upside down. Or maybe just to rock the Hell out of it. For years, GraveWax Records has festered in the absence of sunlight; a blind, unclean fungoid abscess. But now we’re expanding like a virus and creeping across the world, sucking up the sickest, most degenerate rock and roll out there for your aural displeasure. So take your penicillin shot and brace your lame ass for some of the most malignant rock and roll the world has ever seen. We’ll see you on the other side. See ya in Hell, suckers!

No, not Tales From The Crypt, it's YELLS FROM THE CRYPT!!! haha.. I was really looking forward to getting this comp, I had to special order it... I'm a big fan of The Creepniks (one of those rare finds on CDBaby), and I saw they were going to be on it. While I was crossing my fingers for a new track by them, "Shadow Over Elkhart" is still a kickass opener for this cd, and sets the proper mood. Now I gotta say, this ain't your typical 'every other song is the Munsters theme' compilation... which is gawdamn refreshing! The creepy factor is there, but it's kept in check and balanced out with a big variety of styles. Maybe two or three throw-away tracks that just didn't move me, but that isn't bad out of 20 (21 really) different bands. The cover art and inserts are pretty kooky too.

A great sampler of swampy country, surf, and psycobilly with grimy variety and is a knee slappin' good ole time. Yeee-haaw !!

"Yells From The Crypt" is a shameless attempt by Gravewax Records to make money by marketing largely sub-standard material as a concept: horror rock 'n roll.

Most of these people can barely play their instruments. The words, when intellgible, are idiotic. Production values, with few exceptions, are non-existent. Obviously nearly all of these tracks are demos made in ill-equipped home studios.

There are two decent instrumentals in the Dick Dale vein: Track 3 "Murder On Beaver Street" and Track 6 "Psychonaut." "Psychonaut" by The Coffin Daggers could hold its own in any surf anthology. The rest of this CD is garbage. Screamin' Jay Hawkins did all of this with a lot more talent and competent musicians.

Download MP3s of Tracks 3 and 6. Hopefully Gravewax Records is bio-degradable.
