This review is from: Yemenite Midrash: Philosophical Commentaries on the Torah: An Anthology of Writings from the Golden Age of Judaism in the Yemen (Sacred Literature Series) (Textbook Binding)
I really enjoyed this book, and value its place in texts that need to be translated into English. I pray at a Yemenite Beith Keneseth and I know the value of having a good grip on the type and style of Midrash that originated in Yemen. Because many Yemenite Jews speak Hebrew it is often taken for granted that many of their texts have not been translated into English.
This book does a good job of giving a glimpse into various Midrashic texts and puts the type of subject matter into consistant themes. It breaths life into various parts of the Tanakh and also gives the sources for material I have often heard quoted at various lessons, but never knew exactly where they came from. I have used material from this book for various projects, and I would highly recomend it. I would suggest that all Yeshivot and Beit Keneseth's consider having this book handy. |
