About the Author
Simon Buckingham founded Mobile Lifestreams Limited in January 1999 with a view to adding value to value-added services and to evangelize the development and deployment of non-voice mobile services to the mobile communications industry.
Simon has extensive knowledge and experience of this industry gained from his six years of working for mobile operator giant, Vodafone, in areas of the company such as E-Plus in Germany, value added services, quality, marketing, packet radio, personnel and the Vodafone Business Partners Programme, which Simon setup and managed in his final 18 months. This programme managed the relations between the network and independent companies such as software developers and terminal manufacturers.
Following his time with Vodafone, Simon took on the role of Global SMS Manager for Brightpoint, the world's largest distributor of mobile phones. He traveled the world investigating the business case for the Short Messaging Service (SMS) and delivering such services to network operators. In October 1998, he published Data on SMS which was such a huge success that it instigated the decision to form Mobile Lifestreams.
Simon is a prolific author of books about a wide range of mobile data related topics such as SMS, WAP, GPRS and 3G. He is an acknowledged conference speaker on these and other topics and has consulted for a wide range of companies globally including Palm, NTT DoCoMo and GTE Wireless. He has been quoted in most major publications including the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Marketing, Mobile Communications International as well as publications in India, South Africa, Slovakia, Norway and many more.
