ComServ Books is proud to tell Jay Leeuwenburgs story, and convinced that it will make a difference in the lives of not only the millions of children with Type 1 diabetes and their parents, but also adults with Type 2 diabetes and many others facing other daunting health challenges. Here are some examples:
"As I am getting further into the book," wrote a mother from Sand Springs, OK, "I'm just amazed at the issues and questions it answers, almost like you were reading my mind! Sometimes I read books 2 or 3 times. This one I will probably read 3 or 4 times."
"This is pretty cool," wrote a coach in the St. Louis area. "As a coach it is easy to point to you as a living example of ones ability to overcome any obstacle. Your determination and grit serve as an example for all of those going through personal battles, not just diabetes. This is a great source of strength for all."
A former classmate, reconnecting with Jay through Yes I Can! Yes You Can!, admitted to learning what he overlooked years before.
"Even though I knew you had diabetes when we were playing together," he wrote, "I never appreciated the challenges you had to deal with on a daily basis. Thanks for your inspiration and insight on a topic that so many misunderstand, including me.
"One of my favorite neighborhood kids, a great swimmer and soccer player, was recently diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, and your book will be a God-send for him and his family."
From Oak Park, IL, a father expressed the feelings of so many parents.
"I agree with your motto about taking control of diabetes, not vice versa, and how the parents attitude is so important to how the child copes. Were trying to teach our son that managing his diabetes is important, but it doesnt completely define who he is as a person.
"As great as your football accomplishments are, 50 years from now I think theyll pale in comparison to all the good youre doing for diabetes awareness. We could use a lot more like you.."
And a Denver man, whose diabetes was diagnosed in adulthood 15 years ago, commented on the value of Jays story beyond those with diabetes.
"I do hope that parents will read your book, and have their children read it," he wrote, adding: "Whether they have diabetes or some other health problem.
"Thank you for not ignoring your diabetes or the millions who have it. Today it is so easy for people with your "fame" to not want to give back, not want to share their stories."
We look forward to hearing from more who are touched by the powerful messages of "Yes I Can! Yes You Can!."

This review is from: Yes I Can! Yes You Can! Tackle Diabetes and Win! (Paperback)
Very encouraging. A must read for every parent or kid who has diabetes. If you can play 9 years in the NFL with diabetes, you can do anything.
