5.0 out of 5 stars they couldve been bigger than the beatles
this is a great place to start with the TVPS. you have silly songs (Arthur the Gardner), emotional songs (Smashing Time), and songs that bust on punks (part time punks). get this, but beware...many of their albums are hard to come by, and are classics. "mummy your not watching me", "they couldve been bigger than the beatles", "the painted...

2.0 out of 5 stars Who are these guys?
I never heard of this band until I was browsing allmusic.com and they happen to mention them in the Pink Floyd listing.
I have been quite the Anglo-file for about 40 years now and I never heard of them! After giving them a listen, I know why!
Nirvana and other U.S. band were influenced by this?!
Do me a favor, check out Gang of Four, they got it all over...

4.0 out of 5 stars A great TVP's comp, March 17, 2007
Not too sure what that other guy is going on about w/ the Gang of Four reference. How you could claim to be an Anglophile & have no knowledge of Dan is beyond me. Obviously, he just doesn't get "it". This is a great comp of TVP tunes otherwise unavailble on CD. Essential, if you're "in the know" (as Kurt & so many others are/were).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great collection of singles from awesome overlooked band, October 16, 1998
By A Customer
If you like the Kinks and Pink Floyd and the do-it-yourself work ethic of the punk movement, you'll love this collection of singles from one of the great overlooked bands. They've been around since the late 70's/early 80's with Dan Treacy's sharp, simple songwriting and his off-key but it works singing. If you aren't moved by Part Time Punks or Smashing Time or Now You're Just Being Ridiculous, you must not have a heart! Be ready to have these lightweight gems stick in your head all day.

5.0 out of 5 stars musician, August 13, 1999

Television personalities were definitely one of more overlooked bands that ever existed. Wedding present's famed "george best plus" is basically this album done in more hi-fi setting. They combined snarlish attittude of paul weller with more raw emotion. I know this is not on this album but if you do see this review, I want you to listen to song by these guys called "if I could write a poetry". That's really the protypes of bands such as wedding presents, blur, echobelly, underwear, skalatellas, radiohead, and among many others. It is one of those hidden great songs that people seemed to bump into on later years sort of the way people bumped into "memory motel" by rolling stones.
