5.0 out of 5 stars "Here today.... Gone tomorrow!
It would seem impossible that an old school music lover is not most familiar with Barbara Mason's signature recordings, "Yes, I'm Ready", "Sad, Sad, Girl", and "Oh, How It Hurts". Classics during the day, and upon release, tickets to her legacy as a bonafide soul songstress of the late 60s. Mason, the protege of the legendary 60s Philadelphia radio DJ, Jimmy Bishop, who...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the Orginal HITS
When I purchased this CD, I thought it would contain the hits found on the 45 copies I had. Not ture. The sounds are not the same as the orginal hits. Thus, I was really disappointed. The Good news is, if you like Barbara Mason and good songs.. then you might like this CD. Since the songs are indeed good songs. But don't buy it, if you truly want the hits has...

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing!, January 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Yes I'm Ready (Audio CD)
This album is an Australian import of her best hits and obviously these were the demos before the hits. It includes everything from flat singing and tacky arrangements to various background noises. I'm sorry I wasted the money!

Mason, the protege of the legendary 60s Philadelphia radio DJ, Jimmy Bishop, who started his own record label, Artic records, led by Barbara, along with the Ambassadors, who also sang backup for her on numerous Artic recordings, managed to have 2 albums ("Yes, I'm Ready" & "Oh, How It Hurts"), and numerous 45s released on the Artic label. One of the world's greatest reissue music labels, The Bear Family (Germany) cut the deal to reissue the Artic recordings.... and as usual, what a job they did! They released 2 cds, one titled "Yes, I'm Ready" and the other "Oh, How It Hurts", encompassing both lps in their entirety, and the released 45s and unreleased songs from the Artic tapes, a masterful job! The cds have over 25 songs on each, loaded with gems, many never heard before even by 60s fans of hers. But, alas, another "chink" in the armor. Apparently, the cds, when released, did not have the U.S. on it's distribution depth chart (Europe, Japan, yes). The copies that somehow reached U.S. shores, were being pulled of U.S. retailer's shelves as soon as the mistake became knowledge to the current owner of the Artic catalogue. There are still some copies "floating" around, and as the numbers show, a hefty price tag is the bounty to acquire these gems! These are the only true Artic label anthologies ever released. Great cds!

5.0 out of 5 stars UNDERRATED, July 10, 2002

This review is from: Yes I'm Ready (Audio CD)
Barbara Mason is very underrated. One of the best soul singers of the 60's and 70's. Every song she sings you can feel the emotion that she puts into it. She is every bit as good as Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, or Gladys Knight.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is a song missing from the CD, July 29, 1999

This review is from: Yes I'm Ready (Audio CD)
Many years ago, I had an album by Barbara Mason. It had all of these songs on it However, one song, in particular, is missing. It is entitled All in the Game of Love. It should be on this CD. I am looking for the CD with this one particular song on it. Is this song available on any of her CD's? This is a very nice CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch Out!!!, July 14, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yes I'm Ready (Audio CD)
Despite the fact that this CD is called "Yes, I'm Ready" the version of "Yes I'm Ready" on this CD is NOT the original. This is a newer 1990s re-interpretation.

I like Barbara Mason and it is always good to hear her sing anything, old or new.

5.0 out of 5 stars SWEET PHILLY SOUL that is out of this world, July 15, 2007

This collection of the original, and increasingly difficult to get, Arctic recordings are simply sublime. I was simply amazed as track after brilliant track rolls along and you start to think, "Am I the only one who knows about this brilliant music". Perfect pop songs that surely must be re-mastered and re-released! Do yourself a favour and try and get hold of it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Happy, December 1, 2008
This review is from: Yes I'm Ready (Audio CD)
Not the original 60's or 70's recordings. Overproducer late 80's/early 90's production with synths and reverb drums. Not what I was looking for.

1.0 out of 5 stars not what I thought it would be!!, August 26, 2007
This review is from: Yes I'm Ready (Audio CD)
Do Not buy this album!!! This whole album is just a bunch of cheesy remade versions of her classic songs. There is less heart & soul in the vocals, and the productions are really Realllly bad. Although Barbara is probably my favorite soul singer, I give this album 1 star (if I could give it zero i would!!) If you want to hear any of her real music the only place to look is on the Arctic & Buddah label. the only good music you'll find from her on cd is The best of the Buddah Years. Seek out her records, these best of & copilation cd's are a joke!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Deal!!, February 19, 2005
By
This review is from: Yes I'm Ready (Audio CD)
This German import CD has the ORIGINAL recordings by Barbara Mason on the Arctic label. The CD liner notes state that this is a reproduction of her earlier releases on Arctic. There are 27 tracks, including ORIGINAL recordings of "Yes I'm Ready", "Sad Sad Girl", "Girls have Feelings Too", and others. Four of the tracks are nice live performances, but with iffy sound quality. As with Bear Family BM-1004 (Oh How It Hurts), this CD is well worth it if you can find it. The number on the side of the CD case is BM-1003.
