5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent collection!, May 19, 2008
By
This review is from: Yes, Ma'am: Erotic Stories of Male Submission (Paperback)
"Yes, Ma'am" is a great collection of stories about female dominance and male submission. With 18 stories all by different authors there is plenty of variety. The women here take charge of men in lots of different ways and locations, and the men couldn't be any happier. Though the women are powerful and assertive, they have fun with their men without seeming hateful.

Jonathan tries to assert himself to Jennifer so she will allow him to take part in a threesome in Lee Ash's "Tea for Three". In "Secret Desires" by Ellen Tevault, Henry secretly lives out his fantasy of serving Loretta but is fearful of scaring her off. Valerie's new husband can only watch as she seeks pleasure without him in Dominic Santi's "Wedding Night."

If I had to pick one favorite, it would be Rachel Kramer Bussel's "Secretary's Day". Matthew gets to live his fantasy by working for the powerful Ms. Davis, where he has to take care of office tasks and duties of a more "personal nature."

There are only a few that didn't do it for me. Some are incredibly hot while others are just enough to get me going. With such a nice selection, there is bound to be a good amount of material to enjoy for people who like the theme.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Yes, Ma'am," I love this book!, March 20, 2008
This review is from: Yes, Ma'am: Erotic Stories of Male Submission (Paperback)
Anyone who is turned on by the idea of a powerful, sexy female top will not be able to walk by this book without purchasing it. The cover alone is worth the price of the anthology. (Where does Cleis Press find such highly charged photo-covers?)

The book's cover hints at what's inside, and what's inside is H-O-T hot! This book is a companion piece to Yes, Sir: Erotic Stories of Female Submission, and together they include almost every possible combination of kink. Delicious!

The back cover says, "'Yes, Ma'am' shows that pleasure's best when dispensed by a firm female hand." That's the beginning of this sexy anthology: Don't miss D. L. King's "A Different Kind of Reality Show," a bizarre fantasy-fulfillment for a New Jersey CPA, now known as "Pretty" to a group of cruel women who torment him in unusual and delightful ways.

Stephen Elliott's "It's Cold Outside" rang delightfully and erotically true, and made me gasp as I recognized some of the players. Well done, Mr. Elliott, well done.

Sylvane Alistair's "An Invitation to the Dance" lingered in my mind long after I'd finished the book. A deeply sexy look at female dominance and male submission, in the truest sense of the words. Don't miss it!

Another winner is Andrea Dale's "His Lady's Manservant" a role-playing romp that starts one weekend and continues on indefinitely. A formerly submissive wife turns the tables on her husband at a weekend murder mystery get-away. Spicy!

All in all, another winner form the creative minds of the deviant authors who submit to Ms. Rachel Kramer Bussel. I have the two books together on my nightstand within reach when I've had a long day. Two thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Well-Written And Smart Fem Domme Stories, October 6, 2008
This review is from: Yes, Ma'am: Erotic Stories of Male Submission (Paperback)
"Yes Ma'am" is a wonderful collection of male submissive/FemDomme stories that work both as excellent writing and erotica. They convey the intensity, the longing and the sensuality of D/s from a male submissive perspective; but many of the stories capture the humor as well.

Most kink-related stories fail because the people who inhabit the stories end up as caricatures. In "Yes Ma'am," you will recognize these people as fully realized, flesh and blood characters - who live to inhabit the edge of sensuality.

Whether you want to spy on boys getting dominated, or you want to share the experience of being a submissive male or sexually powerful woman, Yes Ma'am will arouse and provoke. The men of Yes Ma'am all have an unquenchable thirst to be subordinated by a strong woman. A celebration of female strength, both inside the bedroom and out, Yes Ma'am is enticing and startling, particularly to the uninitiated. For those who are usually in the submissive position, whether male of female, these stories are highly relatable and capture the essence of longing to be and actually being controlled.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun and exciting!, October 6, 2008
This review is from: Yes, Ma'am: Erotic Stories of Male Submission (Paperback)
This was a great anthology of well-chosen and well-written stories. Overall, an interesting view into malesub desires and dreams, told entirely from the malesub perspective.

Some of the stories were cool enough that they could have been much longer (and therefore that much more titillating!), like "A Different Kind of Reality Show." And some of them, like Alyson Tyler's "Flash," were perfect and perfectly wonderful as they were.

Some of them definitely needed to be filed in the "Don't try this at home, kids!" ("i 1t u 2 do sumfin 4 me") but reading about stuff that is seriously taboo like this made those particular stories even hotter.

Certainly staying on my keeper shelf for those moments of relaxation...And I think a fascinating exercise would be to read "Yes, Ma'am," "Yes, Sir," "She's on Top," and "He's on Top," just to see the shifting tones and voices, turn-ons and hotness in the different perspectives!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good anthology on the subject., October 9, 2008
By
Luis R. Anaya "The reader" (New Jersey, United States) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Yes, Ma'am: Erotic Stories of Male Submission (Paperback)

1 Introduction

The book is short stories anthology that narrates sexual interactions between men and women in which the common theme is the one of women assuming a dominating role (physical or psychological) upon submissive males. All the stories narrate the story from the submissive male perspective. It is a coincidence that one of the books I have recently read were the Bradbury's Martian Chronicles. Even though the subject at hand is different, all short stories share the same attributes of being, capable of delivering its message in a small number of pages, stories must be, in a way "memorable", and usually have interesting twist and turns through the story. Does the authors deliver? I would say yes... for the most part.

2 Technical Commentary

The book is well redacted with colloquialism restrained only where they were needed. The editor should pat herself on keeping readability up. Being English my second language, I can also state that advanced ESL students should be able to read this book without too much trouble (ESL at the high school to college, keeping in mind the subject at hand).

The stories in the book do tell different aspects of the "female domination" lifestyle. Thankfully, it does not constraint itself in describing the typical "dungeon dome" wearing leather with a full array of torture devices. The book expands from the customary imaging of the female domination theme by telling different types of male domination fantasies in which by doing so, keeps the the interest of the reader as it goes through the stories.

3 Subjective Commentary

Short stories are also "like a box of chocolates (to paraphrase Forest Gump)". There's always the one you'll like and the one that you do not. In this case my favorite story was "Tea for Three". I personally think that It was witty and unexpected which is just what I look when I read a collection of short stories.

The least I liked was "Zero Sum Game". I found it formulaic and laden with what you expect in a "dominatrix movie"; an odd choice for it to be the first story of the book. I have to admit that I got apprehensive after going through it because it sets the expectation on how the rest of the book was going to be. However my fears were put to rest after I kept reading through the book.

4 Conclusion

I would certainly recommend the book for people that might be interested in the subject because of the variety of situations that deal with the central subject. However, be mindful that if you have morality qualms on the subject, you are advised to move along. Even though it is a well written piece of literature, I can assure you that you will certainly not enjoy it.

If readers are looking for an anatomy class, this may not be the book for you either. Yes, there are explicitly sexual situations through out the book, but they are all tastefully written. In some cases there are no sexual situation to speak of because the story is dealing with the psychological aspect of domination rather than the physical one. This is one of the attributes that I appreciated as a reader, the fact that the book that it was not as "heavy handed" as other authors that have written on the subject.

In a nutshell: If you are not afraid on reading about those obscure corners of the human sexuality, You will enjoy these stories too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yes, Ma'am: Its a mixed bag, July 24, 2010
This review is from: Yes, Ma'am: Erotic Stories of Male Submission (Paperback)
With "Yes, Ma'am: Erotic Stories of Male Submission," Rachel Kramer-Bussel has assembled an anthology of Penthouse Forum-syle Female Domination stories and experiences that will serve as an excellent introduction to the lifestyle for the beginner and the curious. There's nothing too extreme here and the more experienced players will probably shrug this collection off, believing the further introduction of this material into mainstream America can only mean a weakened formula - Femdom lite, if you will. But that assessment would be a mistake. Most submissive men would surely agree that any respectful coverage of this theme can only serve to make the lifestyle more attractive to the woman they hope to one day call "Mistess."

The collection works best when experiences are shared or stories are told by the women contributors. Too often, the male authors' accounts, both in `Yes Ma'am' and countless blogs and sex magazine forum pages, read like the fantasies of teenage heavy metal fans. Fortunately, Rachel takes care to also include stories with people we can identify and sympathize with.

No volume of Femdom stories is going to escape the stereotype of a black leather-clad Dominatrix strutting around in stillettos and barking orders to a cowering and naked business man. But `Yes Ma'am' does an admirable job of confirming what most of us have long suspected - kink is advancing into mainstream American bedrooms and a generation of strong, independent, sexy women are leading the charge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile purchase, June 27, 2011

This review is from: Yes, Ma'am: Erotic Stories of Male Submission (Paperback)
All of the eighteen stories in this stellar anthology are worthwhile reads. Rachel Kramer Bussel has put together a wonderfully varied blend of subgenre and genre works. This anthology is worth owning.

STAND-OUT STORIES:

1.) "Tea For Three" - Lee Ash: Jonathan, a sub, makes an assertive request of his domme (Jennifer), with flavorful results. Excellent, genre-true and -transcendant work.

2.) "A Different Kind of Reality Show" - D.L. King: A kinky reality show where a naked male is told what to do by unseen female viewers yields new personal dimensions - and goals - for its star.

The writing in this story is good; what distinguishes this story from the others is its setting and BDSM-newbie character dynamic.

3.) "Secretary's Day" - Rachel Kramer Bussel: Fun, clever romp of an office tale, about a secretary (Matthew Brick) whose new boss (Vanessa Davis) takes a disciplined and personal view of secretarial duties.

4.) "It's Cold Outside" - Stephen Elliott: While touring the West Coast states, a sex worker visits friends - a couple, Andre and Serena - the latter of whom alters the nature of their relationship.

This is one of my favorite stories in this mix. It's intriguing, and much more than the usual sex story bullstuff: it balances the real and the fantasized, and it reads better because of that.

5.) "An Invitation to the Dance" - Sylvane Alistair: An aspiring sub (Keith Trenton) for a particular domme (Joanna Persephone) applies for Joanna's educated affections.

This is another favorite tale, for its acknowledgement (and subsequent subversion) of BDSM trappings, its reader-hooking urgency and its overall excellence.

6.) "Sticking With You" - L.E. Bland: A tape fetishist sub, after a blown BDSM scene, tries to win back his Mistress' attentions.

7.) "i 1T u 2 do sumfin 4 me" - George Cross: Exemplary, comic-twisty work about a humiliation-bent sub who receives unfamiliar and terrifying commands in the form of text messages.

8.) "Taming the Unruly" - Debra Hyde: Sensory-intense, tautly-penned piece that ably balances the high-wire act writing is supposed to be: it provides action, accompanied by character-based motive and history, while recognizing and elevating its genre.

Again, one of the best works in this anthology.

9.) "The Big What" - Michael Hemmingson: Sub-genre straddling, off-beat, edgy, L.A.-flavored story that's simultaneously mainstream, erotic, funny and unpredictable with a brief nod at noir films.

This, also, is one of my favorite entries in this anthology. I wish I'd written this (perhaps the highest compliment I can offer a penned work).

10.) "Connection" - Kristina Wright: Sly, twist-punctuated story about a 'I cheated on you' telephone conversation that echoes many of the dynamics that made Jim Thompson's work so distinctive.

OTHER STORIES IN THIS ANTHOLOGY:

"Zero Sum Game" - Alex Mendra; "Secret Desires" - Ellen Trevault; "Exhibit A" - Chris Cooper; "Wedding Night" - Dominic Santi; "Flash" - Alison Tyler; "Rope Burn" - A.D.R. Forte; "His Lady's Manservant" - Andrea Dale; "The Mean Girl" - Teresa Noelle Roberts.

Great book!!! Touches on all aspects of D&S but is easy to read. Many of the stories are very erotic and aroused me. Well written but none of the stories are too long. Actually the sories that do go on the longest are the best. It was fun to fantasize about being in the stories myself and how I would react. All those lucky guys!!!

Great collection especially for somewhat shy men with women in charge fantasies. Not a lot of beatings, burnings, piercings etc, which I'm not into, just sexy sexy confident women in charge and the somewhat meek insecure men who love women and just want to worship them. The formating is a little strange, but I think the writing and stories are great
