2.0 out of 5 stars Speeches breathtaking, music horrible
This album shows the limits of "sampling" when the artists being sampled -- in this case Barack Obama and Dr. Martin Luther King -- are geniuses and the sample-ers are mediocre soft-pop musicians.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes We Can HOPE for a Great CD, November 14, 2008
This review is from: Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement (Barack Obama) (Audio CD)

The packaging is awesome and the 52 page book that is included is a wonderful read and I will cherish this for years to come. I intend to purchase several of these as gifts for the holidays.

I have to say that in the many years that I have been a record buying fan, I have never had such a strong reason to purchase a CD as this one. Not only are the songs great, but the passion behind the project is what really drove me to not only buy the CD but to make sure that all of my friends knew about it.

YES WE DID!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A historical Event, November 17, 2008
This review is from: Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement (Barack Obama) (Audio CD)
In the waking of such historical events many are inspired to do whatever they feel possible to be apart of such occasions. This cd is the result of one of those historical events. Like so many I was truly moved by the occasion as well as this album. Every song chosen is a fugitive illustration of what the campaign in essence was truly about the unifying others past party affiliations, cultural or ideological beliefs/backgrounds. I felt it potent that more than one genre was used fully illustrating the unifying of not just music but people as well. My favorite pieces are John Legend's version "Pride, In The Name Of Love," "I Have A Dream," and "Promised Land." This album is the soundtrack to this historical event.

5.0 out of 5 stars AN ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE!, November 17, 2008
This review is from: Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement (Barack Obama) (Audio CD)
The historical movement we have, and are continuing to experience truly inspired a masterpiece. Excerpts from Obama's speeches during his unforgettable run for president have been spliced with work from the who's who of music (both today's and all-time legends) to perfectly capture the feeling of this monumental time in US and World History. From Kanye West to John Mayer to Sheryl Crow to STEVIE WONDER(!) and the list goes on, Yes We Can musically has something for everyone, and as a collective body of work is absolutely incredible.

For anyone putting together a time capsule of Barack Obama's historic run to become our leader and president, be sure to include the following:

- news paper clips from Nov. 5
- various magazine cover shots
- and a YES WE CAN: VOICES OF A GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT album!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Making History!, November 17, 2008
This review is from: Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement (Barack Obama) (Audio CD)
This CD is by FAR, one of the best political souvenirs to have on hand, while it marks history as well. Such inspirational music mirrors exactly what we felt during the Barack Obama campaign. The music is awe inspiring, thought-provoking, toe tapping, finger snapping and a musical piece to uphold for years to come. I can't remember the last time I purchased a CD and didn't tire of it's message and music after repeated plays. The booklet that comes with this collector's edition alone, is worth the price of the CD. I'm giving this to everyone I know for Christmas--a gift with meaning and a piece of history. Don't sleep on this one!!!

Yes We Can was just the thing to listen to after the election...So glad someone decided to pay a musical tribute....Most of the selections are good but the best part is hearing Pres. Elect Obama's speech exerpts in or above the music! Isn't this a time to sing and rejoice! Thanks for making it available! G Gumness

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoy!, December 12, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement (Barack Obama) (Audio CD)
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Yes We Can CD I purchased. I like how they mixed some of Obama's speech into the song mix. I think Stevie Wonder's song-Signed, Sealed, Delivered, is the only song that doesn't have that. I am very pleased with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes We Can! Very Inspriational! A Work of Art!, November 24, 2008

I got the album and I can't stop listening to it. The creativity behind it. And how parts of Obama's profounding speeches and Dr. Martin Luthur King's speeches were incorporated into the songs was so unique. Its an album I would never mind hearing over and over again. Its a legacy for your childrens children to listen and learn through music.

What a great collaberation of music marking this historic occasion. Best song is "Love and Hope by Ozomatli, with stirring words by President-Elect Obama. This is a CD for the ages.

1.0 out of 5 stars No they can't!, January 18, 2009
The music selected is a melange of different styles, all having one common denominator, mediocrity. One would have hoped for a better selection of the music we heard during this campaign. This montage certainly does NOT inspire. I doubt any astute Obama campaign manager would even listen --wimpy at best, not grassroots at all--with the possible exception of Stevie Wonder and Keb Mo. The rest are not up the the standard. Make your own mix! I would call this disappointing.
