I've used this chin up bar with the P90X program and love it. Initially, I thought about buying the P90X bar since my friend already has one but it's too expensive, so I was looking for a good low price substitute, then I saw this one. It seemed to be a new product because I couldn't find any reviews on it. So, I ordered & wrote my own. I'm about 160+ pounds, my son is 195 lbs and we have never felt unsafe on it. The package was shipped by priority mail with very detail instruction & easy to assemble, sturdy materials, and comfortable grips. Definitely the best choice for me.

BOTTOM LINE
PROS: Great product, fast shipping, great price. The quality is as good as P90X bar.
CONS: A slight mark on door frame. It's very slight but if your spouse cares about that and is tall enough to notice it, you may need to wrap the bar with some fabric. I heard that all doorway bars does the same to your door frame.

I just bought this and received it about 4 days later. The packaging comes in just the pieces wrapped in plastic and bubble wrap.

Okay so i'm going to go through some things i like, and don't like about this...

PROS: So far it seems to be sturdy, I am a bigger guy weighing in at 230 pounds and i can pull myself up on this thing no problem. The different positions for your hands to be in are a good plus to this, I can count about six positions that i tried so far...So overall its sturdy and durable. Just make sure you tighten the bolts tight enough. There is no creaking while using this product either.

CONS: Okay...first when I pulled it out of the package it came in about 10 pieces with the nuts and washers and what not...I can tell you that the assembly was kind of a pain in the butt. My girlfriend and i sat there for a minute trying to figure out why the bolts were not long enough to penetrate all the way through. BUT heres the solution; the bolts have to be FULLY PUSHED into the hole at the top. It looks as if the top of the bolt is circular, and then below that is a square shape, then the long part. THE SQUARE SHAPE HAS TO BE PUSHED DOWN INTO THE HOLE FOR IT TO FIT. and i couldn't figure that out in the instructions. Thats one other problem, these instructions are very poor detail. i must say that the sides that rest against the right and left moulding, DO CHIP THE PAINT or indent into the moulding. My solution to this was to put a couple socks over the part to stop it from doing this. and it seems to work. Lastly, it does bend slightly but not enough to hurt it, considering i am 230 pounds i am sure that it will hold someone 250 - 270, it says 300 pounds but i am not sure bout that.

okay so there looks like theres a lot of cons to this, but most of that was just explaining the pieces!

THIS IS A GOOD PRODUCT IF YOU CAN MANAGE TO ASSEMBLE IT AND FIND SOMETHING TO PROTECT THE MOULDING (CLOTH, FOAM, WHATEVER.)

Measure before buying...the width of the entryway is not the issue unless you have some unusually wide doorways, like a wheelchair accessible doorway. The real issue is the thickness of the doorway frame (basically, the thickness of the wall from one room to the next). My door frames are 7.75" thick and this thing isn't even close to fitting. If your door frame is 6 to 6.5" thick this should work. Much less than 6" and you might have mounting issues as well. The instructions are a little shoddy as well, but if you have ever put together a desk you shouldn't have much trouble assembling this thing just from the picture.

The bar itself, when assembled, is sturdy and works very well. No complaints. I gave 3 stars because the instructions are appalling. The picture wasn't my exact model. The list of pieces didn't even match. I had different types of screws than those in the manual. So I had to use a lot of guess work and intuition to assemble. Even the online manual is out of date. That was very annoying.

I was skeptical, but the price was right.

I can see how some people might have a very hard time putting this together with the instructions provided. Note to buyers: while the assembly instructions are horrible for this product, once put together, it is literally built like a tank. seriously, I would be surprised if there is a sturdier "mount it in the doorway" pullup bar made by any company for any price. Having put together a car engine in the past and being handy with mechanical things, this took me about 20 minutes to assemble and I had no issues.

Hints to buyers:
1) Lay out all parts on tabletop or wood or vinyl floor as positioned in drawings. Make sure your kit contained enough bolts.
2) Scrap the included wrench and use an actual ratchet and socket.
3) Reserve the 4 lock washers for the 2 front/side wide-grip pullup handles (the ones with the foam grips).
4) Take your time and don't tighten anything until unit is fully assembled. I weigh 200 pounds and mount the unit in a prefab metal doorway narrower than recommended by the product listing.
5) No problem for that logistic either: Take a flat screwdriver and a pocket knife. Slide the bumper strips off the unit, break off the end caps, carve out the extra plastic (takes less than 5 minutes total, seriously); reassemble and presto: now you can use this unit with even narrower doorjams than 24", no problem. Because the widegrip pullup foam handles extend way beyond the doorway width, you can easily turn a super narrow bathroom or closet doorway into a pull-up or chinup station.

Excellent product, can't recommend it enough. My ONLY criticism is that one widegrip pullup handle has maybe a 5 degree tilt to it compared to the other one, which is straight across.
