Biography

Jim Brickman wouldn’t play by the rules. Literally. He was 8, taking private lessons from a piano teacher down the street from his parents’ Cleveland suburb home, but little Jimmy Brickman wouldn’t conform to the rudimentary regulations of piano playing, even after his piano teacher told his mother he "didn't have the knack for this." By the age of 12, Brickman ... Read more in Amazon's Jim Brickman Store

Product Description

From the Artist

The songs of Karen and Richard Carpenter represent the music I loved best growing up. I played their albums over and over again. Ultimately it was their sound that inspired me when I began to compose. Richard had a knack for finding great songs, but his ability to arrange and orchestrate them truly created the Carpenters sound. Karen's rich, honest and seemingly effortless vocals completed the sound that has become timeless. Even now, when I listen to their music, I can picture myself like most "angst-ridden" teens. I remember all the emotions: happy, sad and "tortured" that each song represented. It was like they were playing for me. It was my great honor to sit down at the piano with the songs, the memories and my love and admiration for The Carpenters. "It's yesterday once more..." -Jim Brickman

The Carpenters + Jim Brickman = LOVE!! I couldn't ask for a better combination. Absolutely beautiful renditions of the classic Carpenters songs! My favorites on this CD are: We've Only Just Begun, Sing, Raining Days and Mondays, and Ticket to Ride. I can listen to the entire CD several times and not grow tired of it. It has that soulful, folksy quality that I love... it is uplifting and soothing. A few of the songs are complimented with other instruments... but how Jim manages to make one piano sound like many will never cease to amazing me. He is by far the most talented pianist I have come across. Kudos to America's Romantic Piano Sensation for yet another quality product! I would love to see him produce more tribute albums like this one.

Prime Cuts: Rainy Days and Mondays, I Won't Last a Day Without You, I Need to be in Love

Songs have timbres of emotions waiting to be unearthed. With her heartbreaking bouts with drugs and her weight issues, late Karen Carpenters had often sublimated her pain through her singing. Thus, even when she tackles the rapturous "Sing," the voice of heartache and pain still canvases her delivery. You cannot listen to the Carpenters and not feel a wrench in the heart. While Carpenter did it with her voice, Brickman does it with the piano. Vaunted for his brilliant touch on the ivory keys, Brickman is the male artist to charter the most top 40 hits on the Billboard AC chart. Songs such as "Valentine," "A Mother's Prayer," "Simple Things," and "Never Alone" have become almost the soundtrack of when we celebrate the seasons and the festive occasions. On "Yesterday Once More" Brickman shows his mastery here again, this time in covering 12 of the most recognisable hits by the Carpenters. However, unlike his former albums where Brickman had a line up of vocalists singing along with his piano-playing, this time round it's simply Brickman alone on the piano unadorned but yet still so romantically haunting.

In terms of song selection, Brickman has taken the safest route in tackling the signature hits of the siblings without any detour into their lesser known album cuts. Despite the familiarity with these songs, Brickman still leaves us in thrall especially in the way he takes his time to squeeze out every longing of love through the Burt Bacharach-co-written ballad "Close To You." The oft-covered Leon Russell's "Song for You" often is given an insouciant jazzy interpretation.

Just perfect. All the memory and mood modulation I need without the words--good though they are--to distract from my work.

One of my top 10 albums. If you like The Carpenters, this music only (no voice) collection is a must have. Very relaxing, great arrangements.

His tribute is beautiful and tears come when I think of the wonderfull voices of Karen and Richard. The arrangements are very close to the original piano of the Carpenters on stage
