Biography

Dokken is an American heavy metal band formed in 1976 and was one of the classic hair metal bands of the 80s. The original band line-up was Don Dokken, George Lynch, Juan Croucier and Mick Brown of whom Dokken and Brown remain to this day.

After they had released Breaking the Chains in Europe to moderate success, they released the album which broke them, Tooth and Nail in 1984. Under Lock and KeyRead more in Amazon's Dokken Store

2.0 out of 5 stars A lazy live compilation, September 7, 2001

I wasn't expecting much when I bought this and I got just that. Not much. It is basically a blend of two of their previous live albums, One Live Night and Live from the sun that was, in my opinion, rather haphazardly thrown together. If you already have those two albums then don't even bother getting this one as there is no new material. As far as the quality of the material itself it is pretty good though I would have like it more if they would have slipped in some songs from their Beast from the east album which is by far their best. So in summary, if you already have any of Dokken's live albums don't bother but if not then it is an okay buy...

5.0 out of 5 stars One Live Night From the Sun, July 22, 2003

Yesterday and Today is a discount version of two live releases from Dokken. Those releases are One Live Night and Erase the Slate. I say discount version not to mock the tracks put together, production, or album as a whole but to bring your attention to the price. It is considerably cheaper than a traditional album which is pretty cool considering a lot of real rock fans are working class citizens like myself and don't always have money to burn.

The release is actually a cool listen. Personally, I avoided One Live Night like the plague. I know it is disrespectful and considered wrong by musical theorists to not fully appreciate acoustic performances but I have to admit that I was raised on, to borrow a phrase from AC/DC, High Voltage Rock 'n' Roll. So, unplugging the voltage takes away the thrill of it all. But, I really enjoyed some of the tracks done acoustic wise. Unchain the Night blew my mind!

As for the tracks off Live from the Sun, which include Maddest Hatter, Kiss of Death, Tooth & Nail, Breaking the Chains, and Erase the Slate, I don't consider Live from the Sun one of the best live albums out there for nothing. High energy and great tunes. It, better than any other live Dokken album, captures the feeling of being there live. I've seen Dokken quite a few times and believe me. It's a fun time every time out.

Since it is inexpensive, I recommend this instead of One Live Night which I honestly have little to no desire of buying. My hunch is you get the best tracks off that on here and some good ones from the Sun as well. So, it's worth picking up if you don't already have both albums or if you have one but not the other. Worth the discount price for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars A taste of Dokken then and now..., November 11, 2001

If you've never heard Dokken, this is the album to buy to see if you like them. The impressive array of songs on this album covers the whole spectrum of Dokken. Maddest Hatter proves Dokken is strong as ever, even without Lynch as lead guitarist. In My Dreams (classic Dokken) has to be one of the best hard rock tunes of all time--no matter how many times you hear it it kicks your arse every time. Into the Fire, another winner--you should hear this in concert. Breaking the Chains, a classic from the early days. Kiss Of Death, from the hardest album Dokken ever made--it rocks! Tooth and Nail takes you back to the days of heavy metal gods. Just Got Lucky finally gets the recognition it deserves. Erase the Slate is a romp you'll wanna hear over and over--proving that Dokken is better than ever. Probably the best intro to a song ever, Unchain the Night will leave you wanting more---awesome cranking tune. Alone Again finally gets its limelight here, a slow song worthy of this album. What can I say? I'm a true Dokken fan. I do not own this album, but it's because I have all of the songs already on separate albums. This is the best altogether Dokken compilation album tho. It's great for those new to Dokken.
