Encouraging,

This review is from: Yesterday, Today & Forever (Paperback)
This book is entitled "Let Me Tell You About my Savior; Yesterday, Today and Forever; When the King was Carpenter." That implies that through this book Maria von Trapp wants to tell about her Jesus that she serves.
I found the preface of this book to be encouraging and inspirational because she tells of the hard times she went through in her life and how her faith in the Lord kept her strong through it all. Much of this book is just like reading out of the Bible with Maria's thoughts woven into it. She uses bits of her life experiences to explain the Christmas story and life of Christ. There are also a few pictures of the real von Trapp family throughout the book.

Picks up where "The Sound of Music" leaves off...,
By
This review is from: Yesterday, Today, and Forever (Paperback)
I was thoroughly delighted and surprised by Maria von Trapp's "Yesterday, Today and Forever". This autobiographical work picks up where the film "The Sound of Music" left off: with the Trapp family fleeing Nazi-occupied Austria at the onset of the Second World War in pursuit of a new life of freedom for their family.
"Yesterday, Today and Forever" tells that story. Maria shares personal stories and anecdotes of her family's singing ministry as well as the ups and downs of everyday life. This book touched my heart and satisfied my curiosity about what happened after the Trapp family climbed into the mountains of safety and liberation from the Nazis.

This review is from: Yesterday, Today, and Forever (Paperback)
This is a book for 'Yesterday, Today and Forever because it puts into perspective the 'why' we are here and the 'how' of going about our lives. It helps us to understand the importance of dealing with the obstacles in our lives, and the joy of knowing that we are not alone, when life gets tough. Yes, I am a Christian, and a Catholic like Maria, and she made our redemption through the life of Christ, easier to understand, and embrace. She uses the Bible and many religious works, including the works of Josephus, for a proper understanding of Jewish thought and history, up to and around the time of Christ. These ideas are interwoven through the wonderful story of Maria and her family. I love this book, and recommend it to everyone. It's NOT preachy, and opens up a whole new perspective on the struggles of a family, and how they persevered. Hoorah!!!We need their spirit today. It's delightfully different from any book I have read before, and it's just my opinion.

The Hills are Alive,
This review is from: Yesterday, Today, and Forever (Paperback)
The hills are alive with the sound of music.... In Yesterday, Today, and Forever, Maria von Trapp picks up where the Sound of Music left off. We get to follow Maria and her family from Austria all the way to America. She talks about how their faith got them through all of the hardships and ups and downs of their lives.
I enjoyed how Maria made the life of Christ come alive by relating their real life travels to the life of Christ. Maria shares her heart in this book. It's sure to inspire and encourage as you read about how the Von Trapps lived their lives and incorporated their faith into the different facets of their lives. I found a few areas in the book a little difficult to get through although that could have been because I was so tired. Overall, I thought it was a good, inspirational book about a family who lived their faith instead of just talking about it. Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from Master Books/New Leaf Publishing to help facilitate the writing of a frank and honest review. A positive review is not guaranteed, and all opinions are my own.

Amazing!,

This review is from: Yesterday, Today, and Forever (Paperback)
I recently read Yesterday, Today, and Forever by Maria Von Trapp. I honestly did not know what to expect when I got this book in the mail, but to say I loved it is an understatement. It is the BEST book I have read in a really long time. Maria is truly an inspiration on how to mother a family. The open way she looks into finding answers as a family regarding the Jesus' life is truly incredible. The way her whole family has researched and studied the life of Christ to the point where knowledge of Him and his life is like knowledge of each other as siblings is truly inspirational. I have walked with Christ for over 15 years and have never once considered most of the questions her children asked. I grew so much by just reading their discoveries, and pray that, as my two year old and infant grow, we too can collectively research and study God's word as the Von Trapp family has. I am so grateful for the opportunity to read this beautiful book.
I received this book for free from New Leaf Press for this honest review.

Wonderful read!,
By Tammy's Book Parlor "Tammy" (east texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yesterday, Today, and Forever (Paperback)
Having seen the movie The Sound of Music countless times I was thrilled to read this book, Yesterday, Today, and Forever. An autobiographical account of the von Trapp family. This read takes up where The Sound of Music left off. After leaving occupied Austria at the onset of WWII Maria writes of Jesus and His saving power. How the lives of the von Trapp family were saved by the help of so many wonderful and unselfish people but more than that Maria writes of Jesus.
Personal stories are included of the von Trapp children and of Maria and her husband, too. Maria writes of her family, the von Trapps, retracing the steps of Jesus from His birth to His death. How they learned where and why He went. Maria makes a comparison between Jesus' steps and her steps in life. Maria points out that "This book really does not want to become a 'life of Christ.' It only wants to serve as a stimulus to all families to reconstruct their own 'life of Christ,' parents and children together, simply by telling what we did." If you've always been curious, as I have, about what happened to the von Trapp family after their escape then you'll want to read this wonderful 5 star book. This is a read unlike any of read recently. A non-preachy book with a look at a family with ups and owns like many of our families who love Jesus and are trying to live according to His Word. *This book was provided for review by New Leaf Publishing*

Revisiting New Testament,

Maria von Trapp is guiding us through the New Testament, telling us how she and her family, with the help of some Priests friends of the von Trapp family, tried to recriate Jesus's steps, from His birth to His final days.
A very nice reading, very interesting also as she made a comparison/correlation between Jesus's life and our/her daily life.

Yesterday, Today and Forever,
This review is from: Yesterday Today and Forever (Paperback)
Maria von Trapp, made famous in the movie "The Sound of Music" which chronicled her escape from Nazism and her well-known musical family, shares a more spiritual side of her life in the book "Yesterday, Today and Forever." In it, von Trapp chronicles how she and her family grew closer to the Lord as they learned more about His background. In essence, she incorporates history with spirituality to come to a better understanding of Jesus.
With her family and close friends, von Trapp delves into the history of Jewish customs in Jesus' time and how the geographic region looked in that day to conjure up a probable picture of what life was like for Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Like an experienced storyteller, von Trapp recounts what travelling may have been like for Mary and Joseph on that cold night when God humbled Himself and came into this world. I can appreciate the use of Scripture within the text of "Yesterday, Today and Forever" and I wish von Trapp would have relied more heavily on Scripture than on the traditions of her faith as the basis for some of the premises of the book. For example, in the chapter titled "The Son of Man," von Trapp speculates on the death of Joseph. She mentions "how quiet" the house must have been for the widow Mary and clearly omits any indication that Mary and Joseph had other children, which is Biblically-sound (Matthew 13:53-58). As a researcher with a background in history--and a love for Christ and the Bible--I can appreciate the fervor with which von Trapp and her family tried to recreate the "missing pieces" of Jesus' life. I also believe, however, that God purposely chose what He wanted us to know. Too much effort to reconstruct what we don't know takes our focus off of the truths of what we do know.

I was disappointed with this book after reading the Story of the Von Trapp family. Too much religion for me. I wanted a story, not a sermon. Very disappointed
