5.0 out of 5 stars Hard rock must-have
This is a slice of music history that I've treasured since it's release in 1976. People that love AC/DC should appreciate the raw guitar sound, and the in-your-face solos courtesy of Dave Meniketti, who remains one of the all-time great guitarists.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not their best but sure worth having!
This is how it all started for Yesterday and Today, later known just as Y&T. If you're a Y&T fan you should get a copy as fast as possible since there is indication that it will be impossible to get a hold on this cd in the future... This debut album contains some classic song like "25 hours a day", "Earthshaker", "Fast ladies" and...

This debut effort will cleanse your palate of the over produced and seemingly directionless efforts of the '90s, and it holds it's own even today. Put it on, crank it up and smile!

5.0 out of 5 stars Drumming you'll never hear again before or after, October 4, 2008
This review is from: Yesterday & Today (Audio CD)
This cd is a must, I've worn out a couple of albums in the 70's. The single bass triplets by Leonard Haze are awesome. The music might be a bit dated now but there has never been any drumming like this since. For drummers it's an orgasm of overplaying that works. Haze smokes any double-bass player before of after. They had Motley Crue open for them in L.A. when I saw them and they ripped up. Haze had a huge bass drum and one huge tom and he tore the place up. Bonham did a little of this stuff but not enough!

3.0 out of 5 stars I Was There, May 2, 2008
This review is from: Yesterday & Today (Audio CD)
I saw Yesterday & Today at the now gone Winterland in S.F. They played on a bill followed by Point Blank and then BOSTON whose first album with "More than A Feeling" was tearing it's way up the charts. Yesterday & Today, out of Hayward, CA were local boys making good. They had fierce energy with Meniketti on lead guitar and Leonard Haze the drummer. For their encore Sammy Hagar (who had just quit Montrose) joined them and, yes, he was magical. They embarrased Point Blank, who was a side project of ZZ Top's producer.

O.K., about Yesterday & Today's first record. For it's time (recorded circa 1975) it is VERY high energy and by that measure was way ahead of its time. On the downside, the recording quality is marginal. The vocals are at times painful. Although better on later albums, on this record drummer Leonard Haze needed a watch to keep from speeding up, especially on the cut "Earthshaker". On the upside, the record has some shining solo guitars (Meniketti) and the single pedal base drum triplets.

Is it worth it? Yes, since somehow I like the Rocky Balboa element in these guys. But if you play their album and then Boston's first record, it's easy to see why Y&T just rocked Winterland while Boston rocked the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yesterday & Today rocks......, June 6, 2006
This review is from: Yesterday & Today (Audio CD)
I am so glad to finally get a copy of my favorite Yesterday & Today album. I have an old scratched up Album from the 70's. I was one of the lucky ones who seen them rock in SF almost every week or 2!! They are by far the best ever metal rock band from the bay area! Dave is one of the best guitarist ever and Leonard is amazing on drums. Phil & Joey are great too...Damn I wish I could go back to the 70's again and rock with them at the Old Waldorf!! A must buy for any rocker!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some of my personal all-time favorite guitar work !!!, February 1, 2006

This review is from: Yesterday & Today (Audio CD)
Dave Meneketti was indeed ahead of his time !! I have several copies of this one and the second as well and i hold them near and dear to me. I haven't heard this in several years but the
chilling guitars solos that seem to escalate to unknown preportions are phenominal. Beautiful Dreamer is a classic example of this to be sure. 25 hours a day, My heart plays too has an exceptional solo or 3 in it that will leave you weal in the knees and wondering where the primal emotions came from.
I have the first and second on one disc and i wouldn't have it any other way !!!
I think that I like this band quite more when they were yesterday&today. Either way, support your musicians and your self and get this one ....straight up !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahead of it's time!, June 27, 2005
This review is from: Yesterday & Today (Audio CD)
Yesterday & Today's First album is the precursor of the 1980s heavy metal/guitar heros. Dave Meniketti, and company offer a hard driven, guitar rippin', masterpeice. Way ahead of it's time, you get to hear some amazing shred guitar solos, with some ass kicking drumming. It's early heavy metal at it's best. This album is worth your money if you're into bands like early Journey, Judas Priest.

5.0 out of 5 stars KILLER HARD ROCK!, April 7, 2005

I have been a Y&T fan for many years and this early CD is one my favorites. Dave Meniketti and company just tear it up! This is the kind of rock music I don't hear these days and that's sad. The guitar riffs are killer and Leonard Haze's drumming is superb. Listen to his single bass drum work in the middle of '25 Hours A Day', I doubt you will hear that kind of single bass drum work these days, and yes, it IS single bass drum/single pedal work! For me this is a must-have CD. Killer hard rock, period!!
