5.0 out of 5 stars Real Heroes, March 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yesterday's Heroes: 433 Men of World War II Awarded the Medal of Honor 1941-1945 (Hardcover)
This book is about heroism and gallantry of American soldiers during World War II. Each account is short, dry and to the point but enough is there for a readers to imagine, "Could I do what these people have done if I was in the same situation?"

In all likelihood, more people probably deserved to receive the highest of honor for U.S. Military but were not able to because witnesses who could vouch the valor were themselves killed or the hero who did the deed died alone saving the lives of his comrades.

Any readers who are interested in history and want to know something about what real heroes are may find this book worthwhile to peruse.

5.0 out of 5 stars WWII MOH, February 26, 2010
This review is from: Yesterday's Heroes: 433 Men of World War II Awarded the Medal of Honor 1941-1945 (Hardcover)
This is a compilation of the official citations for Medal of Honor recipients of World War II - for each, a short paragraph on the deed which led to the award.
My cousin, Arthur O. Beyer, is one of them (his mother was a Rachut).
A typical enlisted recipient (most of them were enlisted men) was 19 or 20 years old and threw himself onto a grenade. A typical general received the medal for planning a successful campaign.
Each of America's wars has a separate volume in this series of MOH awardees.
