Warning: they used a high quality macro lens to photograph this tiny, quarter-sized pocket watch!
on October 20, 2014
Uh, the dimensions posted on the sale page are NOT EVEN CLOSE. Here's what the Amazon posting says:
"Product Dimensions: 4.8 x 4 x 1.4 inches; 1.9 ounces". The seller listed the dimensions as: Case diameter 4.50.
What unit of measurement they're using is a mystery of science. So, what are the actual dimensions? Check out my photo: yep, that's a quarter I placed next to it. The ACTUAL dimension is 1 inch across (diameter) -- or, if you're selling this item from China, 2.54 centimeters, or 25.4 millimeters, or 0.0254 meters. One thing it is NOT is any one of the dimensions listed in the posting. Get the idea? It's small. So, is this a pocket watch? Sort of -- the "Rib Chain" they advertise is a basic neck chain, not a pocket watch chain. Does it fit in a pocket? Yep, the smallest pocket you have! (Perhaps they should have advertised it for that small "fifth pocket" in a pair of jeans -- they'd probably sell more of them.) Oh, and what about that inscription reading "U.S.S. Constitution 1797-1997" shown in the listing? You guessed it: it's not there. Does it keep time? I don't know. Only time will tell. The saddest part of this story is that my 16-year-old son bought three of these for himself and two of his buddies, for their high school dress-up day (Thursdays), trying to "class things up" a bit at school. He opened the package and burst out laughing. This is NOT what he had in mind.
