5.0 out of 5 stars You're Going to Buy This CD, Josh Ritter Fan March 24, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Let's get this clear. If you're a Josh Ritter fan, you're going to buy this CD. There's not a question about that, especially at such a great price. So this review is more for the casual Josh Ritter fan who wants to know if this CD is worth the purchase. I'm going to have to say no, not really. Not YET.

The EP has three original songs and previously unreleased songs - Galahad, Tokyo!, and Wild Goose - and three remixes from Josh's CD "So Runs the World Away." The remixes are a fun and interesting inclusion, but they're mainly here to see what can be done to make familiar songs sound uniquely different. I was surprised to hear that the last verse of "Lantern" has new/old lyrics (it's a demo, so this is basically his first pass on the song).

Galahad is a fun song with some unusually risque lyrics for Mr. Ritter, and it paints an interesting conversation between Sir Galahad and the Angel of the Holy Grail. It may take a few listens to fully appreciate the song, but the time is worth it.

I don't know what to think about Tokyo! It's a very catchy song and, at first listen, it doesn't sound like a Josh song. But once you pay attention to the lyrics ("Don't let the things you hold onto ever outnumber the things you let go") are pure Ritter. My first listen, I decided I didn't like it. But I never skipped over it on the CD, and now I find myself tapping my foot whenever it comes on. It's an enigma of a song; I can see why Josh didn't include it on the official album, I can also see why he wouldn't just let it linger on the cutting room floor.

Wild Goose was written specifically for Rainn Wilson's book "Soul Pancake," and it's a very sweet, quiet song about love and loss. I'm very glad it was included on this disc.

Sure, every Ritter CD's gets strong ratings form me, even songs that did not make the full album, "So Runs the World Away" are worth hearing. A treasure for fans

I love hearing all of Josh Ritter music and this one has the b sides and demo's. If you're a big fan, this is a great buy. Love it.
