One of the Mysteries of Science series, this compact book by a respected writer offers arguments for and against the existence of the Yeti, a perhaps human, perhaps mythic creature spotted in the Himalayas. Landau injects some intrigue into the subject by offering incidents that seem to point to verification of the Yeti, only to show how later most of these were proved false. The book is illustrated with good black-and-white and color photos and some drawings. There are two other books in this series, also by Landau, one about the Loch Ness monster, the other about Yeti's cousin from the American Northwest, Sasquatch. (Yeti and Sasquatch could easily have been combined into one book. Ilene Cooper
