5.0 out of 5 stars A great book on Yoga Philosophy and More
I am a yoga teacher and am often asked of students what book would I suggest them to read on the subject of yoga. I Suggest Yin Sights, It offers students a easy to read scientific explanation of yoga and the different branches of yoga. It has brief explanations of mudras, yantra's, chankras, meridians, etc..I love the Idea of Yin and Yang in my yoga practice, in my life...

1.0 out of 5 stars A Disappointing Jumble
There are many wonderful books about yoga and yin yoga. This is not one of them. The author is no doubt an inspiring teacher, but his knowledge has not been transferred to the 400+ pages here. It's unclear whether this book was shaped and edited by a professional. That's a shame.

The material covered includes a large number of jumbled and disjointed segments...

I have been teaching the yin style of yoga for about 4 years after doing workshops with Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers. This book is a gem. It not only explains the power of Yin Yoga, but also gives insights into the power of meditation and vinyasa flow yoga. I have recommended it to all of my students.

This is one of my top favorite yoga books! It is not only for yin yoga practitioners but everyone will benefit from reading this book. It is written in an intelligent and relaxed manner. Bernie adds a bit of humor thru out the pages that is so refreshing. I recommend this book to all my yogi friends! A great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent text for understanding and teaching Yin Yoga, March 30, 2008
This review is from: YinSights: A Journey into the Philosophy & Practice of Yin Yoga (Paperback)
I have studied Yin Yoga with Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers and have been teaching Yin Yoga practices for several years. Bernie's book does a great job of bringing together Paul and Sarah's teachings and providing additional information and context in a well formatted and easy to access package. I highly recommend this to all who teach or practice Yin Yoga. A great yoga reference tool that I use frequently. I highly recommend it for your yoga bookshelf.

There are many wonderful books about yoga and yin yoga. This is not one of them. The author is no doubt an inspiring teacher, but his knowledge has not been transferred to the 400+ pages here. It's unclear whether this book was shaped and edited by a professional. That's a shame.

The material covered includes a large number of jumbled and disjointed segments. These include material about acupuncture meridians, cellular physiology, Taoism, Buddhism, western psychology, pranayama, electromagnetism, Indian yogic philosophy and Indian Tantra. The book also includes a full discussion of active or "yang" yoga. If there was a logic to the order of these topics in the book, it is not apparent to a reader.

The discussion of yin yoga -- the ostensible focus of this book, mentioned in its title -- begins on page 241. Paul Grilley's "Yin Yoga" remains the classic in this category. Yin Yoga

As a teacher I can assure you that if you want to learn about Yin yoga this is the book for you. It is concise, accurate and well documented. Not only is this a good book on Yin postures....but also the whole philosophy of Yin and Yang is explored and discussed. There is a tremendous wealth of theory and practice that can be utilized in any yoga class, whether Yin or Yang. I dont care what style of yoga you teach, you will find a wealth of information in this book that can be utilized in your classes.

This is a remarkable and thorough book for anyone interested in the topic of yoga, but specificly yin yoga. Bernie is an astute writer, who synthesizes the scientific understandings of yin yoga in a wholistic & readable way. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a practioner of yoga, and most certainly to a yin yoga practioner or someone wanting to understand the deeper significance of this approach to practice.
