5.0 out of 5 stars The illustrations are what makes this book so GREAT!!, January 14, 2002
This review is from: Yip! Snap! Yap! (Hardcover)
This book was made for Toddlers. It has durable pages, huge, funny, colorful pictures, and bouncy rhyming words that sound like you are singing a song as you read. My daughter LOVES this book, and now says many of the words along with me as I read to her.

I have to beg to differ from my esteemed colleague from New York. This book is sweet and delightful and simple enough for toddlers to enjoy. I am going to buy it and use it for our next "Doggy" Storytime. Cat and dog lovers alike will enjoy this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the pictures!!, January 5, 2007

I bought this book because I already have "I know a Rhino" and it's my favorite book ever. I didn't realize that Charles Fuge was just the illustrator and not the author so I bought this one thinking it would have the same charm. The pictures are too cute for words - Fuge's illustrations are always amazing but I didn't think the story had the same appeal as the Rhino book. I think it's a cute concept but it didn't flow as well and some of the dog sounds are difficult to pronounce so I had a hard time reading this to my daughter. She really likes the pictures but would rather make up her own sounds (actually that's probably better since she needs to use her imagination) and she really doesn't like my interpretation of the sounds. I can't blame her though, maybe the fault is with my reading and not the writing at all. In all, it's a beautiful book but the storyline could use some work. I HIGHLY recommend "I Know a Rhino". It's our family favorite!!!

As dog owners I thought our son would enjoy a book about dogs and I really liked the illustrations in "When I Like To Curl Up in a Ball". This book is well constructed and the vibrant pictures are perfect for a toddler. We supplement the text by talking about the different types of dogs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable Fun, June 27, 2003
This review is from: Yip! Snap! Yap! (Hardcover)
A chihuahualike dog, a bulldog, a pug and an anvil-headed English bull grace this delightful book for toddlers. The rhythm, the pictures and the durability of the book will certainly give it staying power with the preschool set.

5.0 out of 5 stars My 4 year old son just loves this book, October 5, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yip! Snap! Yap! (Hardcover)
For the past couple of months my 4 year old has been telling my husband and myself that he likes dogs. He says "boys need dogs", then "I need dogs". When I saw this book I knew it was for him. Ever since it arrived we read it to him 2 or 3 times every night. He loves to do the noises/sounds that the dogs make when they are sleeping, eating etc. We read our part, then he adds in his "sound effects". The pictures are big and colourful, just full of character. During the day he sits with the book on his lap, looking at the pages and telling the story to me. Now he REALLY wants a dog, just perfect!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Realistic pictures, energetic rhyme, November 14, 2004

Beccy Stones (Johannesburg, South Africa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yip! Snap! Yap! (Hardcover)
My son (19 months) has enjoyed this book since we got it about 6 months ago. It has consists of energetic rhyming phrases in the format "Dinner time for greedy dog: chomp! munch! chew!" The energy builds to the climax of "Sing along with puppy dogs: aroo! aroo! aroo!" My son and his dad enjoy reading it together, and now my son even joins in with the "Aroo"s. Only the last tongue-twisting page is a little beyond him. This book is hidden where he can't ask for it at bedtime - far too revving-up!
