Olga Tañon besides being the Queen of Merengue is known as "La mujer de fuego" (fire woman) because of her voice and strengh in her music and lyrics. In 2001 she released this production which was a big hit in the U.S, Latin America and Spain. The first single "Como olvidar" (how can I forget) was a #1 hit and was released in merengue and ballad. That single was follwed by "Mienteme" (Lie to me), another big hit. This album is basically a Merengue one, the only pop song is the ballad "Como olvidar". There are great songs to dance like "Tu te lo pierdes" (you miss it) that has 100% of rhythm, "Me gusta" (I like it) another great track, "I wanna have fun" which is in Spanish. There's one song that is softer but doesn't lose its Merengue style, the song is the one that gives little to the cd, "Yo por ti" (Me for you). This cd won the 2002 Grammy for best Latin album and debuted at #4 in the American charts. I would also recommend her 2002 cd "Sobrevivir" (Survive) which is amazing but doesn't have the rhythm that this one has. It has more ballads and also includes a duet with hit Latin singer Luis Fonsi and includes also the 2003 #1 hit "Asi es la vida" (That's the way life is) which is a Merengue song.

You'll end up loving it,

Olga's latest CD has a lot of variety and sounds terrific. I had to listen to it a few times to decide if I really liked it or not, and discovered I enjoyed it more than I thought I did.The majority of the songs are fast-paced, especially the song that seems to be getting the most attention: "Tu Te Lo Pierdes." My favorite is the merengue title track. Yes, there's finally some new merengue material on this CD, but not on all the songs. Her English contribution, "I Wanna Have Fun," is really a bilingual song, and unfortunately it's also probably the weakest number on the CD. This CD is very tropical, but also very pop. It opens with a slow song, ends with a slow song, and has a lot of fast- to mid-tempo songs in-between. Yo Por Ti is a hot blend of tropical styles and Olga's unforgettable voice. If you like this one, I think you would also like Gloria Estefan's Alma Caribena CD.

La Reina de Merengue--Successful Yet Again,
By
This review is from: Yo Por Ti (Audio CD)
Although Yo Por Ti may not be the most exciting of Olga's albums, it is certainly a beautiful mix of merengue and tropical beats that will get anyone dancing. It also may not be her most successful CD to date, but her strong and seductive voice comes through wonderfully, and she paints a beautiful romance story throughout the album. I think Olga fans throughout are pleased with this album, and I recommend any fan of Latin music to listen to this. Overlook its flaws and start dancing, becuase this Cd is still the high-quality Olga Tanon we all love. Viva Olga!!!!

No te lo pierdas!,
This review is from: Yo Por Ti (Audio CD)
!Linda, linda, linda!

With a new image, Olga returns with this new album. The cd has a variety of rhythms which keeps it from being a boring album of the same beats. It has merengue, bachata, guaguanco, salsa, and other blends of rhythms. The lyrics are at their best some very romantic and others that make you want to get up and dance. "Tu te lo pierdes" is one of most outstanding tracks. It rocks!! Other noticeable tracks include "Como olvidar", "Yo por ti","Ahora soy mala", "Me gusta", and "Prohibido el Paso". This is quite a versatile album which makes it very listeanble and enjoyable.

I prefer the merengue songs over anything else. I say maybe 8 out of 11 songs here are good.

Great deliverance from her 1990's CD's, this is a very good prelude to "Sobrevivir". She's in very good form and the music is more versatile and better sung, if a little more pop. This is to be expected in this day and age. She has so much nonsense to compete with and here she delivers. Best Cuts: Tu Te Lo Pierdes, Como Olvidar (Balada), Pegaito, Mienteme, and Quiero Que Tu Me Quieras. Vocally she is in very good form and the material here is stronger then on previous recordings . I rate this a 4 star of 5

Olga has defiently changed her look. I like how she used to be better. The album is a mixture. Some is merengue, salsa, ballada and pop. This album is good music to hang out to. The best song is number 5. Olga continues to do well.
