Half an album, half a score.,
By Dr. Tchock (Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yo Soy (Audio CD)
This album could easily be called the best by Mexican band Café Tacvba, unfortunately it was originally released as a double album featuring the all but one track instrumental "Revés", which complements this only one track instrumental Yo Soy, and it's not included in this new release.
The mastery achieved by Café Tacvba in both lyrics and music on this album has never been met again, in part because of it's experimental side they never went back to the sound that defines the double album, and also because unfortunately sales were pretty bad, so much that to this day it's almost impossible to get a hold on a new original release CD. And yet, many of the best songs from the band are included here, not to mention that "La Locomotora" and "La Muerte Chiquita" have become 2 of the greatest classics in Latin rock history. The album as I said is by far their greatest ever, but that is in conjunction with "Revés", if they thought an instrumental album wasn't required they should've considered that the sounds found in "Revés" could easily be compared directly to Radiohead's Kid A/Amnesiac even though Café Tacvba's album being released about 1 year before. Get "Revés/Yo Soy" together and it will be a 5-star, get "Yo Soy" alone and it will still be a 5-star but it'll only be half an album, get the whole deal and complete the experience.

Beautiful stuff. I obtained the Yo Soy CD years ago when I was a member of a music club. I had no idea what I was in for. It is definitely on of those CDs I have listened to repeatedly. Interesting that the previous reviewer (3 stars) compares it to Amnesiac/Kid A, which I also completely enjoy. I didn't pay much attention to Reves, but I now will after having read the other review. Anyway, Yo Soy is definitely worth purchasing either alone or with Reves.

If you've never heard this, buy it even if it is missing Reves.,

While I agree with most of what the other reviewer is saying, I believe that even if it doesn't come with the Reves disc, if you've never heard this record before, get it NOW!!! The Yo Soy side is instant brilliance! This is Cafe Tacvba at their absolute best.
