5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have camp classic
OMG, this one is an absolute must have! Remember Slim Whitman? Well this is Slim, only waaaaayyyyyy better! I have to thank Beethoven radio's Sir Stew for introducing me to it. He plays snippets occasionally. The first time I heard it, I had to buy it. It is absolutely terrific. I defy anyone to listen to this without getting a huge grin--I crank it out at work...

Having heard "Mary" squall for an hour, I decided to remove my eardrumms with a coathanger(which might I add was less painfull).

I defy anyone to listen to this without getting a huge grin--I crank it out at work occasionally when we're having a bad day, & it's guaranteed to make my coworkers smile. Kudos to Mary for having the unabashed sense of humor--& the ability--to pull this one off. It's also not a bad way to introduce non-classic lovers to classical music.

(And I absolutely have to agree about this beating listening to Charlotte Church any day of the week. This is way more tolerable, is performed with more heart & wit, & you won't die of a sugar overload.)

Thank-you to Mary Schneider for having the courage to put this cd out. I think she was dead serious when she recorded this. But what a delighfully cheesy combination of mixing yodelling and classical music. Her yodelling version of the William Tell Overture will have you in stitches on the floor in seconds, and is worth the price of the cd alone. This cd will appeal to all ages, from young children to senior citizens. You cannot be in a bad mood after listening to this cd. Pure joy. The classical music is beautiful and relaxing to hear, and Mary's yodelling parts will just have you laughing like no tomorrow. When i worked at HMV Records, one of the staff members found this one day and we all were cracking up listening to this and some of us even started arguing because it was the only copy in the store and four of us wanted to buy it. Luckily i spoke up for it first. There is such light-hearted humor in her approach to the yodelling and singing. I can't help but think of the classic Bugs Bunny cartoons of yesterday and all the great classical music used. Guaranteed, if you live to be a hundred years old you will not find a more obscure, but highly listenable cd. If you love classical music then get this cd. The pure novelty factor of this cd is unbeatable.

Anyone who has been classically trained needs to listen to this. The technique that is needed to do this is absolutely over the top! You cannot help but laugh uncontrollably when you listen, but then you cannot believe that someone can actually do this!
Try to keep a straight face when you listen. I dare you....What a great listening example for music students at school. I'm sure we will all be rolling on the floor together. Kudos to Mary. You are truly the queen.

4.0 out of 5 stars The yodeling of an Angel, December 30, 2000

Mary Schneider is not QUITE as cute as Charlotte Church, but she is much more pleasurable to listen to. Any of the arias here sound better yodeled by Mary than they do sung by Charlotte.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for sheer entertainment!, January 22, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I hear Mary Schneider and I laugh. First and foremost, let me just say that I respect the art of yodeling, and that Mary Schneider does it better than anyone. However, the musical audacity of taking Bizet, Rossini and Strauss and yodeling "Carmen", "William Tell" and "The Skater's Waltz" is absurd. It has served as a great party laugh, and has caused many person to wheeze with laughter!! Mary Schneider has vocal dexterity that defies belief, but the musical grace of a manatee on land!! Buy it for laughs, buy it for yodeling, whatever, just buy it!!!!

She has such a calming voice! I have never heard such a variety of yodeling. The harmonies are great, the words out of this world. She must be able to tie her tongue in knots to get the sounds she does. It is a beautiful CD!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Knockout, October 8, 2003

Nothing in my life had prepared me for the experience of listening to Mary Schneider's interpretation of the William Tell Overture or the Overture to Carmen. Florence Foster Jenkins has her devotees, and Signor Moreschi a small - I presume - band of worshippers, but Mary Schneider is without peer.
I freely admit that such has been the emotion which her resolute interpretation of the pieces I have mentioned roused in me that I have as yet been unable to continue listening to the subsequent tracks. You will have to discover for yourselves these doubtless equally unforgettable offerings from a unique talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars The hills are alive . . . and how! An utter delight!, December 12, 2001
This review is from: Yodelling the Classics (Audio CD)
Mary Schneider has the ability to yodel and the wit to apply her talents to some particularly fruity arrangements of classical standards. This is NOT an it's-so-bad-it's-good cd, it's an o-my-God-I-didn't-know-a-human-being-could-or-would-choose-to-do-that cd.

This CD is absolutely fabulous! Ms Schneider well deserves the title "Australia's Queen of Jodeling". Her incomparable renditions of the music of Rossini have brought tears to my eyes and will bring great joy to many more ...
