5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Vinyasa-Style Intermediate Workout

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't like this one as much as the beginners
Be warned! This workout is much more difficult than the beginners, and I felt was really an advanced yoga workout more than an intermediate one. Plus, the sequences are so long, that you can't really shuffle and recreate your own workouts the way you can with the beginner version of Yoga in a Box. I was really looking forward to owning this since I felt I had mastered...

I love this product. I have owned the Yoga in a Box beginner level for some time now along with numerous DVD's, and Yoga in a Box is by far my favorite. Being in a small town and having a 3 and 5 year old it some what limits my ability to find a decent place to practice Yoga. This has solved my problems. While the cards are somewhat flimsier than the cards in the beginners set they are still awesome. Cyndi Lee's voice is perfect for leading a quality workout very calming not at all like the fitness guru turned yoga instructor that I find at gyms. While it still includes some asanas from beginners you also begin working on headstands, downward dog split, staff pose, warrior 3, dolphin, etc. The music CD is much more relaxing than in the beginner set, very easy to listen to and meditate or do a yoga workout. I highly recommend purchasing this set. It still has the stick figures and an explanation of how the pose benefits you on one side and Cyndi Lee performing the pose on the other side of the flash card.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best out there, February 10, 2005

This review is from: OM Yoga In A Box: Intermediate (Hardcover)
I've been practicing yoga for about 10 years now and definitely think that this is the best product on the market for at home practice. I like Cindy Lee's instruction and think that the CD/ flash card format is the closest to actually being in a yoga class. If you've been practicing for a long time, this makes a nice gentle practice before bed, but if you're just beginning yoga make sure that you supplement this with some actual class instruction. Some of the postures are a little advanced, including headstand and full bridge and I would not recommend trying them unless you're already familiar with proper allignment-you could hurt your back or neck! Overall, I think this is a great product and recommend it to anyone who is already familiar with yoga!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Quick Home Practice, November 10, 2004

I've taken classes at the Om Yoga Studio here in New York as well as at several other Yoga studios... I bought this set as part of an attempt to begin a daily yoga practice at home in addition to twice weekly classes. I find the instructional CD to be too slow-moving/easy for me, but using the flash cards and music CD, I can create a short daily practice that works for me. I wouldn't recommend using Om Yoga in a Box or ANY yoga cd/book/video as a substitute for real, live yoga instruction, however. So much of the alignment and correct breathing and meditation is better learned with feedback from an instructor. This works well as a supplement, however.

This is a great way to practice Yoga by your self or with a friend.. but you really learn about you and how your own body is developing every week a little more, It is great if you do not have enough time to go to your yoga class, you can practice Yoga at home by your self and almost everywere.. I practice at home, at the garden, at the beach....

5.0 out of 5 stars My go-to for home practice, January 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: OM Yoga In A Box: Intermediate (Hardcover)
I love practicing yoga at home. We are lucky enough to have a small room as dedicated office/yoga space, and I love being able to practice by myself, quietly, at my own pace.

I prefer audio CDs or podcasts to DVDs for home practice because I don't have to crane my head around to see a TV and because I can program my CD player or iPod to do 'mixes' for a variety of routines. I have CDs from Bryan Kest, Shiva Rea, Baron Baptiste, Natasha Rizopolous, and a few others, but Cyndi is the 'teacher' I turn to most. I know tastes vary, but I find her voice and demeanor really relaxing and accessible, and this particular session is just right for the amount of time I have and the intensity I want in a 'normal' session. (I have been practicing at home and in the studio for about six years). Also, the music-only CDs are light and upbeat, and I use them frequently when I do a 'freestyle' session or am practicing a routine from a book or magazine. I didn't use the cards much myself, but they came in really handy the day I actually managed to convince my husband to join me for a session!

I recommend the OM boxes or the book on daily practice to friends interested in learning about yoga or adding it to their workout, and have given both as gifts with great results. I think beginners (and even some of us intermediates) can be occasionally intimidated by the 'culture' of yoga - there is a rich history and spirituality behind yoga that can maybe overwhelm someone new to practice. And to be honest with you, some yoga practitioners can be kind of cliquish or cultish which unfortunately makes some beginners wonder if they 'belong' in yoga. Yoga is for everyone! Cyndi's music, the way she describes form (e.g., "barbie doll feet"), the cute illustrations of poses, and her sense of humor make yoga very accessible and comfortable to anyone who wonders if they belong in a yoga studio. And I think she incorporates just the right amount of history, meditation, and spirituality to teach beginners about the significance of yoga without overwhelming them and to provide a foundation to those who are interested in learning more about yoga 'culture' if they so choose.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful, but not compete., April 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This was useful, but I wish there were more complex poses included. A lot of the poses in the box are great, but pretty basic. However, the flashcard style is very useful for planning a yoga practice!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tools for getting more from your yoga, September 3, 2009
By
This review is from: OM Yoga In A Box: Intermediate (Hardcover)
After reading Cyndi's "Yoga Body, Buddha Mind", I was anxious for this kit to arrive. If you are looking to cross over from doing yoga just for exercise, and ready to add more meditation - you will love this kit and Cyndi. I greatly appreciate Cyndi's approach concerning meditation. Even though you could probably buy all of the elements contained in the box separately, would you? The reasons I don't meditate more, is that I feel I don't have time for it. Having everything right there in its fun little box, forces me use to it(candle, incense) and therefore, it really enhances my whole practice.

The only reason for the four stars, is that I was expecting a little more from an intermediate practice. In "Yoga Body, Buddha Mind" , I really like her transitions into side crane, and what she calls "mystery arm balance". I was hoping the intermediate audio cd would have a few more creative and challenging poses such as these. I found the same to be true of the Baron Baptiste Bootcamp Box. I guess I will have to wait for Cyndi's advanced version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great program, August 13, 2008
This review is from: OM Yoga In A Box: Intermediate (Hardcover)
I like this more than her beginners because its just challenging enough to be fun. I also like her overall format of getting centered first before (chanting OM- hence the name) and after the practice. The only thing (which is totally dependent on my mood) is that she's a little too "instructive"- sometimes I like to flow more through poses without so much detail. Although it says 'intermediate' it's more for intermediate beginners. So if you aren't brand new to yoga, this is a good practice to put on your iPod or MP3 and do at the beach or park.

Not a replacement for an instructed yoga class -- but an amazing session when you can't get to the class. So glad I got this!
