Review

Through Ira's intelligent and contemporary voice, he is uniquely able to communicate traditional mind/body practices, making yogic philosophies and modern day psychology a natural blend that is necessary for Self-awareness and transcendence to occur. He understands that healing is not possible without awareness and as a yogi and therapist is skilled at guiding his students and clients to richly explore the depths of their inner lives and relationship to Mystery while also staying firmly rooted in the here and now. I recommend Ira's work. --Seane Corn

I would be hard pressed to name a yoga teacher who has worked harder to perfect his craft than Ira. Over the years he has accumulated an impressive array of skills and developed a keen insight into the human condition. --Richard Rosen

Ira is the brightest, most culturally sophisticated yoga instructor I have ever met. He is able to integrate the material and spiritual worlds like no other. A real treat to take yoga from an iconoclastic genius. --Tom Morley

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME AND INSPIRING WORKOUT September 10, 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I suffer from mild anxiety and wanted to try a natural way of coping with it. After seeing all the great reviews on this DVD, I had to try it-- and I am so glad I did! First off, it is a great workout. Second, it really does help me relax. At the end of the DVD Ira says something about how if you just concentrated solely on your breathing and nothing else for even one breath, then it did its job in ceasing your anxiety. It's really taught me how to take 75 minutes out of my day and instead of constantly thinking and worrying, just concentrate on my breathing. It can be done!-- you can realize how it feels to think more clearly! I'm not in the best of shape in order to do yoga, so unfortunately, I can't achieve all of the poses yet, but it's my goal to do so and I'm hoping it just gets better in time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful! September 30, 2010
By Rachel
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Having tried over the years to start a yoga practice at home, I never thought that I would "get into" another yoga video. But, this one is a surprise. I greatly enjoyed the "real world" introductory session in which Ira challenges listeners to question their individual states of being; he seems genuinely interested in helping folks find a change in perspective, which, in my view, truly begins any journey towards healing. The choice of a waterside nature setting, both before and after the actual teaching, was especially calming to my spirit. The studio setting was a pleasant space, except for the unnecessary placement of some background equipment which distracted me at times from the student's MOST graceful and perfected, uh, form (I am sure that some appropriate Sanskrit word would apply). What an inspiration I found her to be! Her precision in practice was easily matched by Ira's masterful command of the instruction. After the first viewing, I had the sense that his teaching style was so far above any typical yoga class endured "at the gym." Ira's delivery evidences the committed effort of a devoted and studied practitioner of an ancient tradition. And, other than wanting the camera to move at times toward the steady voice of the teacher, I was pleased with the editing between and among the various spaces presented. Overall, I feel that this is a very personal offering by a serious professional intending to benefit any potential viewers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Has inspired me to start practicing again July 5, 2010
By RuthAnn
Format:DVD
I used to practice yoga several times a week but started finding the classes in my area over populated and competitive. In my opinion that is not what yoga should be like. I actually found myself feeling frustrated and annoyed during a crowded class. I have never suffered severe depression but like many people I go through times of mild depression and anxiety, not hard to do in times of economic turbulence. This DVD was given to me a couple of weeks ago and it has brought me back to practice. The narrative at the beginning makes so much sense and speaks to what I believe when it comes to working on and through depression. Thanks to this DVD, and the friend that gave it to me, I no longer have to suffer in a crowded classroom that feels more like a competitive sport rather than a spiritual path to health and vitality. I recommend giving it to yourself and your friends as a gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Daily Practice tape September 26, 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is a great Dvd to support a daily practice at home. Ira's voice is both motivating and grounding, soulful and humorous, with plenty of wonderful cues; just a perfect amount of "talking" during the practice so that you won't get tired of it after a few viewings. This is one is a keeper, and one that I'll actually use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and insighteful yoga instruction. July 1, 2010
Format:DVD
Ira Israel's new DVD "Yoga for Depressioin and Anxiety" is one of the best, if not the best, yoga dvds I've yet come across. I've been practicing for over 17 years now and have a stack of dvds that reaches from the floor to my shoulders but I've never ecnountered an instructor with such insight and basic knowledge as Mr. Israel has. It was a pleasure to use his dvd this morning and I'm sure I'll be feeling the same for many more mornings to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! February 17, 2011

I am an experienced yogi and have been practicing for the last twenty years. This video is one of the best I have ever done to date. He makes it super easy to follow and you can really be any level and adjust poses. The music is super calming. The best thing I found is he really gets you to work on breathing which is the most important part of yoga. Love it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent how-to yoga video with a purpose February 2, 2011
By Catbird
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I've taken yoga classes on and off for years so when I saw the exercises I thought this was too simple. But....when I began them I realized that they are so calming because the downward dogs flow into other poses slowly and calmly instead of moving so quickly you get stressed trying to keep up. And I learned just little but important things regarding postures that I never got from other yoga classes because I was focusing so hard on keeping up. And yes, I felt really grounded afterward -- didn't need my herbal relxation drops at all the second day I had done the DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rave reviews for Yoga for Depression & Anxiety March 25, 2011
Format:DVD
I love this DVD for a number of reasons...I'll list them tho they are not prioritized.

1. The timing and flow is very real.

2. The piece is shot in such a way that the viewer is motivated to practice along, I feel, because the principals in the video look like real people, not super models or overly flexible Yoginis. The positions are described clearly and calmly. I became involved with the video because it feels human.

3. The positions are not too demanding on the practitioner.

4. The approach on many levels is perfectly tangible.

I feel the concept of yoga fighting depression and anxiety can work and of all the yoga videos out there, this one delivers benefits immediately and with long term goals.

You feel that a message to help is being transmitted and shared here.

Sincerely,
Me,
D.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not so good
How could anyone like this video? The man has a lot of ego, no flow in his voice, nothing to do with depression or anxiety, odd title, and not interesting and engaging in the least
