1.0 out of 5 stars Boring and slick.
I've been practicing yoga on and off for about 3 years, and I found this video to be not kid-oriented enough. The set is lush with sweeping curtains, tall windows and chandaliers, the instructor is dressed in a buxom-enhancing babe-like fashion. Her delivery is not fun but patronizing. I'm going to keep searching because my son who is 8 wants to do yoga but found this...

I bought the video and kit for my daughter for her recent birthday. She enjoys the idea of practicing yoga with me, but not surprisingly found a lot of my tapes hard to do. We were both extremely frustrated with YogaKids, so I crossed my fingers when I bought this kit for her.

Leah Kalish speaks very calmly, but not condescendingly- a delicate balance when teaching children. The poses were challenging and interesting for young yoga novices- particularly Flower and Bug- but weren't so complex that they scared my daughter off. However, her favorite pose of all was Corpse, and only her birthday party later that afternoon convinced her that shs shouldn't give in and doze off.

The production quality, setting and sound were excellent; clear, but not jarring. The set reminded me of the set used in the Ana Caban Pilates tapes, and the music reminded me of the Beginner's Balance Ball tape, all by Living Arts. The combination worked very well on this tape.

I was very pleased that my daughter enjoyed the tape, and I also felt relaxed and nicely stretched by the end of the tape. I look forward to continuing this tape with my daughter- and her younger sister- and hope that it's the beginning of her yoga collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice beginning level regardless of age, March 26, 2002

Although this is geared toward children, I wished I had watched this when I first started Yoga. Each and every one of the poses/positions is named and labeled on the screen, which seems to make it easier to remember. My daughter, who is 9 had tried doing Yoga with me on one of my adult tapes, only to get bored and walk out of the room.

Leah Kalish is an excellent instructor for children, very encouraging style, kind sounding voice. Although my daughter "thought" it was simple, I noticed it was difficult initially to hold the poses for any length of time. Children have way more flexibility, but balance is another thing.

The moves were easy for her and her friends to understand and over time, I've seen their balance improve tremendously. Nice job, I enjoyed it myself.

This review is from: Yoga Fitness for Kids Ages 3-6 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As I wrote in a previous review, my older daughter (now 9.5) loves Yoga Fitness for Kids, 7 to 12. Earlier this year, my four-year old started doing some yoga postures with me, and I decided to try this video out.

Just perfect. The program is about twenty minutes long and includes a "warmup" where the kids get to pretend that they're different shapes and colors. Then we move into postures very similar to the older video, but treated slightly less seriously. Windmill, Seed (Child), Cobra, Sandwich (Forward Bend), Flower and Rocking Horse all reappear, as well as a few others. New to this video are Boat and Shark (Locust) as well as a few others. Kalish does an excellent job of making the postures more of a game than a "workout" or anything else with a lot of structure. The program ends with a brief relaxation (Kalish rightfully understands that small children will not tolerate being still for very long).

My younger daughter really enjoys this program, and it's a nice way to integrate family time with getting a (little bit) of yoga in for me. Highly recommended for children ages 3.5 to 6.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Intro to Yoga for Kids, January 16, 2004

This review is from: Yoga Fitness for Kids Ages 3-6 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I now have 2 yoga tapes for my kids. I like them equally, but for different reasons.

This video is filmed in a nice studio with wooden floors, and an instructor with a great personality for kids. She makes it fun, but keeps focused on the yoga.

This video has about a 20 minute actual yoga routine, which includes standing and sitting poses. It flows nicely from one pose to the next, while also giving kids enough time to transition. I've done it with my 4 1/2 year old several times, and I like the workout too. Nice variety of poses.

I'd recommend this to anyone interested in kids yoga. I'd say it's for kids ages 3-6, just like they suggest.

I have a 9-year-old boy, a 7-year-old girl, and a 4-year-old boy. All of my children love doing this workout. Even though it is designed for older kids, my 4-year-old still enjoys following along as best he can. My daughter especially likes it, but I was pleasantly surprised that my oldest boy enjoys it too. I really like the instructor--she explains things thoroughly and has a patient but energetic demeanor without being cheesy or patronizing. This was just what I was looking for!

5.0 out of 5 stars fun for all, March 10, 2003

My group of kids ages 6 -11 all love this video. It's a riot to see them all trying the different poses. They ask for this video on an "indoor day" when it is snowing or raining. Even the most awkward kids enjoy trying because it is very low key and presented as a learning experience. They are often surprised at what they can do!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great stress reliever, November 18, 2004

(REAL NAME)
I have a 9 yr old boy who is decidedly UNflexible, and a 6 yr old daughter who is a natural-born dancer. They both enjoy this video, and certain parts of it are challenging to either one, but not so hard that they feel defeated. I find it relieves stress, but I must add a large part of this comes from their mockery of the teacher and her pronunciation of the position names! I don't find the video particularly girly; there is an older boy on the video, and it does emphasize strength, not just flexibility. It's been a good introduction to yoga, and gets us moving. We enjoy this tape a lot!

5.0 out of 5 stars A *Real* Introduction to Yoga, April 24, 2007
This review is from: Yoga Fitness for Kids Ages 3-6 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If you'd really like to introduce your 3-6 year old to yoga, then this is the video you've been looking for. Most of the other videos I've seen just have the kids running around with no real instruction. In this video, there is an instructor who guides three children through an actual yoga routine and introduces them to many different asanas. What a great video! The whole family will want to join in!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Out There!, April 24, 2007
Your children will love Yoga Fitness for Kids Ages 7-12. This is an age appropriate introduction to yoga that teaches children actual poses. What more can I say, this is the best kids yoga video out there! And if you have younger children, check out Yoga Fitness for Kids Ages 3-6.
