5.0 out of 5 stars I've been looking for this March 3, 2013
By want-to-know - Amazon Reviewer
Format: Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase  - I've been looking for a book like this for a while. Everything is explained in simple terms so that a beginner like me can do it and not get confused. Yoga is such a great exercise, I just haven't known where to begin till now.

About the Author

Amy Gilchrist became interested in yoga at an early age when she learned of the numerous benefits that it has not only for the body but for the mind as well. Because of her love for it she made the decision to get the information across to as many persons as possible and tried to find the best medium to do so.

She settled on putting together a book which outlines some basic yoga poses that anyone can try. It is an extremely simple book which anyone can follow as the paragraphs outline the process to do the various poses is followed by an illustration which makes it even easier to understand.
Amy is aware that some are a bit skeptical over trying yoga for religious of other reasons but tries to convey that the benefits of yoga exercises far outweigh any negative aspect it could have.

If you are interested in living a life that is healthy and getting in all the exercise you can without slaving away in the gym then yoga exercises can be a great option that can be tried by anyone. It is not hard to get started and with the guidance of a professional yoga instructor things will be sorted out in no time at all.

I have always wanted to try yoga for the many benefits but have always been intimidated for one reason or another. This book breaks it down and makes yoga easy to understand. The book is nicely filled with great colorful pictures that decribe each yoga pose. As a martial arts student, I found that I actually was doing a lot of the moves in this book without knowing it as part of my stretching exercises. This book gives tips how to improve the moves I was doing for maximum results. BTW, just got done trying some of these exercises and my back feels better already.

I put my copy in a 'share a book' spot at work and feel guilty about it.
There is a terse one-page description per pose that does not explain terminology that might be needed by a 'beginner'.
There is a single image per pose - that doesn't even match the pose, it's an 'adjusted' version. These photos are of many different people, many different locations - they look like stock photography taken from the internet.

There is no cohesive plan for using the poses, just a simple listing. There is no explanation of which poses are good for what, or which muscles are worked/stretched. There is at least one pair of poses near the front of the book that are near-duplicates, with no mention of which to use or why to use both.

Finally, the explanations themselves lack descriptive power, and seem poorly written - though they are spelled correctly, and have no major grammar problems.

I do beginner yoga using the Wii Fit video game and was hoping this ebook would help me learn to do some of the poses that I have problems with (like the Tree). Unfortunately, the book only shows completed poses, rather than showing step-by-step illustrations together with the text. The text is scanty in its instructions when it is supposed to be aimed at a beginner.

If you want real beginner instructions I suggest you try the DVD by Peggy Cappy "Yoga for the Rest of Us" which explains how to use props such as chairs, mats, and yoga bricks to acheive poses when you need assistance because of age, lack of joint flexibility or weight.

I am always looking for a reminder of what I know or a new spin on things and this book lived up to that. I will be keeping this book for a while. Love yoga.

I was looking for more poses to add to my routine and this book had several poses that I haven't tried. It was also easy to follow.
