It's the Baby Einstein of Mommy/Baby Yoga,

I was turned on to this video by my fitness instructor and have not been disappointed. What makes it so unique is that the main screen is beautiful pictures for my toddler and seven month old to look at, while only the small portion of the screen shows the exercizes. It's neat, because I can actually get a work out and keep my kids entertained. Sometimes they "play" with me, and other times are happy to sit and stare at the incredible images. A great deal, very interactive. Whoever thought of this is brilliant.

It's challenging to get time for yoga when there is a toddler around, so thankfully a video like this one exists. There are three options, two really for yoga practice. One is full screen yoga and the other is small screen yoga with the big screen being dedicated to things of interest to a baby. My daughter, now a small toddler, does climb on me and play with me while I am practicing yoga, it's true, but she would do this regardless of the video. The video does capture her attention at times, but it's not of complete interest to her at this age. The verbal instructions are very clear and soothing. The exercises are great for moms who have just given birth, but there are variations that are more challenging as well. I highly recommend this video and I continue to use it, even though I am far past the "postnatal" stage.

It's very hard to relax and do yoga when your baby is crawling all over the place. It could be useful when the baby is still very little and not able to crawl. I only used this DVD a couple of times and then just stopped using it. It was kind of useless to me, I'm used to relaxing and calm environment for yoga not chasing after the baby and being constantly on alert.

I was so excited to get this, I was desperately feeling the need for some yoga, and with a young baby, was hoping for a routine I could do with him.
Long story short, this is a good workout. It is much better than a lot of postnatal DVDs that I have come across. However, this is not a good workout to do with a baby. There are a few poses in which you interact with the baby. In the rest, you are instructed to leave him on the floor and tend to him if he gets fussy. Um....okay, so pretty much I'm not working out then. I will try this again when my baby is older, once he is able to entertain himself more, and be entertained by the animals on the screen. I am hoping that way, I'll actually get my money's worth out of it. Really, a good DVD, just not to do with a baby.

I bought this yoga DVD to do while my daughter is around, we've done it "together" since she was about six months old and it has worked well. She ignored it entirely until a few month ago (she is now 18 months old) and she still tires of the images before I am done with the workout. The images go pretty quickly and sometimes they change before my daughter really grasps what is going on - but she does not watch any other TV so is probably not like most other kids her age.
The yoga seems pretty outdated, but it does the trick if you are looking for relaxation and stretching, and is best for recovery, there are no levels or more difficult routines on the DVD. The picture in picture is cool, but the yoga picture is pretty big and often covers key parts of the images for the kids, there is no coordination between the pictures. |
